Ruger SR1911 LW commander

I really like the night version Ruger ,I am thinking a Government model . Has special sights and grips. Pretty cool, but if your into accuracy go revolver. I sure wish I still had my python. But the S&W 357 looks very pretty, the under 1000 dollar on Buds gun shop. I backed out of the Gold Cup, went back and noticed even more available. Even so any match grade is a good purchase if your gonna use it.

I got one last year and really like it.

Since then Ruger/Talo came out with another model. It is their Night Watchman but now in LW CMD form. A little more expensive but if you want an all black pistol and night sights then it might be worth it.

Colt has been making Commanders since 1949 and they were all lightweight or had an Aluminum frame till 1970 when Colt introduced the Combat Commander with a steel frame. One of the new Colt XE Commanders might be worth a look before you decide.

Is that real history on Commanders, Dakota? I used to be a collector of Colt Governments, and don't study well. I used to be anyway, but good points of interest are very appreciated by all.

In 1949 the Army was looking for a new sidearm for officers. They specified 9mm, a maximum overall length of 7", and a maximum weight of 25 ounces.
Between the aluminum frame and taking 3/4" off of the barrel and slide they made the weight and size limit.

You guys are blowing me up. Weird wild stuff, so no Officer in the Military was ever issued a Commander 1911? I just want the Singer Government length, so not such a big deal.

On topic I was on Wilson web sight a few nights ago. They list that they only work (gunsmithing) on quality USA made. And Ruger SR1911 are in the bunch. So it's plenty proven many thousands made and good product. No need to wait till 2092 to buy.

Hi guys !! I have nothing against any gun manufacturers but I have a short story for you !! I was lying prone with my spotting scope beside me and I was able to find the 50 meter sweet spot on ruger sights and got about 10 in a 6 inch grouping on paper !!! Took 30 shots to find it but it was cool !! A gentleman came over to me after I got the paper and asked me how much I paid for my Kimber! !!! I proudly told him it was a 700 dollar ruger and sometimes it's the practice you put in that makes you a good shooter not the high end guns !!! Lol !! I just wanted to share!!!

My oldest commander is 1951 and a 9mm still shooting to day I have a total of 4 Colt Commanders 2 LTW and 2 steel frame Just depends on what you want to carry . Today I have a Colt Defender on last week was my Colt Officer . As long as its a Colt I will find it a place in my carry rotation.
