Ruger SR series of pistols?

rscarawa: My SR45 tosses the brass at least 6-8 feet.

I did have a p229 that when finished with a magazine all I had to do was crouch down and pick up all the brass. I thought it was great having the brass 2 ft or less away. :)

Well, cannot argue with convenience but I wonder if the extractor is losing grip of the cases when the barrel drops down. I looked at other sr45 videos online and they throw cases like my sr9c does. Going to call Ruger today.

Have not called Ruger yet. One other point of interest. Attached are photos of four casings. The left two are from the sr45. The right 45 is from Smith and Wesson 1911. The right case is from sr9c. The sr45 cases are numbered in the order fired and U means the up side of the case while in the chamber. Notice the firing pin gash on the Ruger cases. It is worse on the 45 but still there on the sr9c case. Smith and Wesson case is just a perfect peen. So I deduce that the case is in downward motion while the firing pin is still in the primer. Is that normal?

I have had my sr9c for a couple years now and it has been flawless. Great trigger, accurate right out of the box and has never had a failure of any kind. I love it! My brother liked it so much he bought one for himself as his first pistol.

Call Ruger, send it in. This is like diagnosing a car problem over the internet. Nothing replaces hands on, nor are we warranty staff for Ruger.

Got my pistols back. They said there was nothing wrong with check Mark in primer. Also, accuracy of sr9c was in spec. They got a group of about 3 inches from 15 yards. The sr45 got its extractor and firing pin replaced.

I still cannot get good groups with the sr9c unless Salisbury u Bechtel rest it. Not sure why it is so hard to shoot compared to the sr45 and 1911. I put a GHost Rocket trigger in the sr9c but that did not help me. The gun is capable of shooting well but cannot seem to figure it out. Any recommendations? Seems my attached pics from 10 yards.

I known I need work even on the 45s too.uploadfromtaptalk1408500939247.jpguploadfromtaptalk1408500949702.jpguploadfromtaptalk1408500958060.jpg

have you tried reversing the backstrap? personally I see a decent group for most shooters at 10 yards with 2 flyers that are both low and left(flinching) stop trying to compensate for recoil, and stop griping the gun so tight when squeezing the trigger. sr9s can function even when limp wristing, relax a bit and your groups should shrink a great deal.

I rarely talk about it because I am so enamored with my CZ, Steyr, and Walther, but I love my SR9C (even more so than my P99C AS). Still love how narrow that grip is for being a double stack. Haven't had any issues at all with mine, and to me, I personally find the stock Ruger trigger better than what Glock offers out of the box.

My SR9c shoots better than I aim.
I like the ergos a bit more than my XDS9
I love the trigger.
Although the rear sights would be better with night sights, they are plenty fine for stock, imho.

My experience is entirely based on about 400-500 rounds put through a friend's brand new SR9 around mid-2012.

They're pretty good. I don't like all the safety devices (manual safety + magazine safety) but the build quality is solid, accuracy is solid, and it ran 100% reliably with a proper grip. For what it's worth, when I limp wristed I got it to choke pretty easily, but it never burped with a proper grip.

I have to agree with the previous two posts. The egros of the gun are great and I like the gun. Notice that one of the targets is from an SR45. No problems there. I am consistantly ok with the 1911 and SR45 but I am really bad with the SR9c.

I do disagree with a post much earlier about being able to limp wrist this thing. I feel that the SR9 is over sprung, probably to make it safely handle +P ammo. I reload ammo and noticed that for some load recommendations, the starting load does not even come close to allowing the gun to cycle. For instance using Autocomp powder and 115gr bullet. Starting load is 4.4. Did not cycle. 4.8 gr of powder allowed 3 of 4 to cycle. I had to load to 5 grains to get reliable cycling. The never exceed is 5.1 according to Winchester. Contrast this to my SW 1911. I can usually run loads of 80% of starting load and still get cycling for most loads.

I learn something new about chambers in these guns. One ammo config chambering in one 45 does not mean it will chamber in all 45s. For instance, Loading a Zero Bullets 200gr RNFP, I can have an OAL of 1.242 before the lead hits the lands and grooves of my S&W E-series. So I built a bunch of bullets at 1.230". They did not chamber in the SR45. Max length on the same bullet is 1.200" before contacting grooves. I was going to buy one of those bullet check guages but I am not sure if they provide any data of value. Seems you really need to check with the gun you intend to shoot with when coming up with a new profile.

Jerry Reid once said, "When your hot, your hot!". First 7 are in the circle. I had 3 go thru the same hole at 11 o'clock position.

I got a SR9C a few weeks ago so not what you'd call any kind of expert on it. But I've put maybe 600 rounds through it with absolutely no issues. And I've found it very accurate. With the 10 round mag it's a carry, with the 17 round mag it's a fullsize. I just absolutely love my SR9C!

When I initally bought the SR9C I actually walked into my LGS to buy a Shield. But the more I handled the Shield the less "right" it felt. The guy was very complimentary about the Shield but said he felt if it didn't feel right I could certainly look at other ones. I felt a few and as soon as I picked up the Ruger I said out loud that this is the one. I did express a concern about the size so he took the two and laid one on top of the other. It was very difficult to tell any difference and I think the Ruger was thinner. About a $20 difference.

All that to say, I walked out with the 9C and haven't looked back.
