Ruger sp101

I am thinking of getting an sp101 357 with a 2.25 barrel and was just wondering how accurate they were. At one time I had the 3" barrel version and I really liked the gun. I will be carrying the gun with a iwb holster. Just wondering if there is a lot of difference in accuracy between the 2.25 and the 3" barrel. Thanks

I'm planning on purchasing a 3" SP101 soon and I'm going for the extra length for burn time. I'm not too concerned with accuracy seeing as I would buy this gun for long range shooting although I'm sure its capable. I reload and I understand that magnum powders burn a little slower than pistol powders. Not 100% on that, still researching loads/powders.

Both of those are far more accurate than most human operators. Shooting a snub accurately requires a good deal of practice for most people. Don't believe anyone who tells you a 2.5 or 3 in. snub is not as accurate as a longer bbl. They just haven't developed their skill sets yet.

One of my primary carry guns is a Ruger sp101 327 fed 3" bbl. This is easy to conceal and surprisingly accurate. Personally I don't like shorter bbls. The bottom line is an individuals choice.

I load 2400 powder and it burns clean with all bullets.

Not much difference in accuracy between 2.25 and 3", but finding a holster for the 3" will be more difficult.

Not enough difference in accuracy that you would notice. The 2.25" will allow you a wider array of holsters than the 3" inch barrel.

"finding a pocket for a 3 in barrel will be even more difficult" Not if your name's Bubba and you wear overalls every day. God, you could hide an M 60 in those things.

Ok thanks for the input. Holsters was my next problem. Looks like they are more readily available for the 2.25 bbl model. Like the 100 pro iwb series that bianchi offers.

I've got a CrossBreed supertuck for my LCR and I'm thinking it will work for the SP101 also. I'll have to try that when I get mine, great holster, but I may have to go with the 2.25" for that.

I owned an SP 101 357 snubbie. From my experience, it shot accurate and true. It handled 38's well also. I thought it was too heavy for a snubbie though. LOTS of muzzle blast also. With intense 357 ammo I had trouble with casings sticking in the cylinder. I could put a glove on and extract them. This would not have come in handy if I needed to do a quick reload. I had houge grips in place of factory grips, and it handled very well.

Coyota1, your chambers needed a light polish, OR you didn't clean it well after shooting 38s and then 357s. Most likely it had rough chambers...worn-out tooling can do that. Not too hard to fix.

If I was to go with the 3'' bbl how easily is it to conceal? I know IWB holsters are more available for the 2.25 bbl. I think if I could find a good IWB holster for the 3'' bbl I would go for it.
