So im on this local FB gun trading group I have had very good experience in the past using it. I decided to put my 91/30 up to see what offers i get then i get offered a ruger single six .22 mag. I get excited but then he sends me the pics

He says its fine mechanically and he has shot it a lot. He is also throwing in 120 rds of 22mag Is this a good trade? I would like to try and reblue it but i have never done that before so i need some advice guys

Looks as though that pistol has spent too much time in that unlined leather holster as there is pitting in the cylinder and frame - looks as if he tried cleaning all the rust with steel wool. Betting the bore is also pitted, and he probably lost the .22 lr cylinder. I wouldn't trade for it.

Guess the guy never heard of gun oil...

That Ruger is in horrid shape and they're not exactly rare collectibles. I'd pass. The grip frame is anodized aluminum and cannot be just reblued. I'm not sure what the fix would be there. From a guy that treats his guns that way I'm not sure if I'd trust his definition of "mechanically fine" either.

I've owned my SS since 1975.
Looks three universes & a galaxy better than that sad thing, and I still have both cylinders.
I wouldn't pay $50 for it, much less trade a Mosin, and I'm not all that fond of my Mosins. :)

If it's not a sniper M91-30...I would say go for it, due to the long wait times for SA Ruger pistols. If something breaks on the pistol...Ruger will probably give you free new 22lr/22 mag cylinder's, besides a free repair job along with a tune-up. If it needs a new barrel...just order a new barrel, or Ruger just might put on a free one for ya.

IMO the Ruger is still worth more than the Mosin and will probably shoot just fine even if the barrel is pitted.

I wouldn't have that Ruger. Too deep pitting to polish out to refinish. The grip frame would have to be painted with one of those new coatings.

The grips don't look too bad. Offer maybe $35?

I think Hawg and KillKenny are probably not fans of Mosins. At a pure dollar for dollar trade, it's no good. You can get a slightly beat up Single Six for less than the price of a nice Mosin. If you have a good Mosin, you can sell it for $200-250 right now. Unless you really, really want Single Six and you're hard up, I don't think it's a good deal.

not sure what you mean about long wait lines or Ruger SA. Plenty at all my local stores, plus online retailers have plenty in stock (buds for example(

at first i thought this question was a no brainer. Now i see the issue. that is one beat to heck new model. holy smokes!

Yeah it looks like i will be keeping my 91/30 I have 2 they are both zhesvk 1943 rounds thats really the only reason i put it up there lol

"Rode hard and put away wet" . . . I'd pass on that one. SS are great but if that's what you want, thee are a lot better ones out there - I'd walk away from that in a heartbeat . . . and be shaking my head wondering how someone could let a nice revolver get in that shape. Good honest wear and "character" is one thing . . . abuse is another.

That gives a whole new dimension to the term "rust blue"....

If Moisins were still $39.95, I might make the trade, if I was interested in a "project gun". Otherwise, no.

Even a "beat up" milsurp generally has a better overall condition than the Single Six being offered.

The other guy is hoping you are stupid....
