Ruger Single Six 9.5 barrel, opinions?

I have been looking at a couple of used Ruger Single Six revolvers with 9.5 barrels and I like how they feel in my hand and point. They are both in 22LR and one is on sale for $295. That one show a bit of holster wear and the grips show a little wear. The other one is $395 and seems like too much dough.
The questions I have are:
Is $295 a good deal or should I have the shop order me a new one that is convertible (.22lr/.22mag) for $450? I am leaning towards the new because of the flexibility. How do the older Single Six's match up to the new ones?
I will be using it for target practice and small pests such as squirrels and porcupines. My experience with 22lr on porcupines is they are very hardy and they can take a lot of punishment and unless I get a head shot it takes multiple shots.
Where can I get a reasonably priced holster for this 9.5" barreled revolver? I would like to spend around $50. They seem pretty scarce at any price.
Has anyone had experience with these guns and would it be worth the extra $150+ for the new revolver?

I really don't know the market value of the 9 1/2 inch Rugers. I'd go new for that extra $150 you would have to think that 22 mag cylinder would be $50 or more. I have a 91/2 inch but only in 22LR it's a great shooter. I would like to get one with both cylinders but not high on my wish list right now.

The 295 sounds like an OK price but if you can afford it go with the new and the twin cylinder.
I have one in 45 Colt/ 45ACP that is older than dirt and it’s a great gun.
As far as quality of new Ruger’s VS old, I picked up a new Blackhawk in 44 special and out of the box its one of the best triggers I have ever felt on a new Ruger. Fit and finish was very good and it is very accurate.
If you’re planning on shooting the heck out of it you might want to look at stainless.

I've owned one for years, bought a new one 3 months ago gave 300.00 it converts to 22mag I love it shoots like a small rifle it shoots the mag rounds better than the lr22 but thats what I was looking for.Imo you can find them cheaper than your price just look around a bit.good luck they're a lot of fun.

You like the feel of the 9.5 incher, that's good but, for me, it seems akward. My 7.5" is very handy and I like.
If I were shopping right now I would go for the new ten shooter Ruger has put out.

I've got an old model 3 screw 9.5" fixed sights I picked up this summer and I love it. It balances nicely and is more accurate than I am. Mine does shoot better with mags - but that may be because the LR cylinder is not original..even though it seems to be timed correctly and locks up well enough.

I paid $250 for mine - but then had to shell out another $60 for a LR cylinder on GB.

I prefer the old 3 screw models as long as they haven't been "fixed" by the factory.

Hey folks, thanks for the info. Do any of you who own one with the 9.5" barrel have a holster and where did you get it?
I too like the idea of the 10 shot but it is only available with the 5.5" barrel and as far as I know it does not come as a convertible.

Not sure wear to get holsters.I DID have the 9.5" also and it did group better with the magnums, especially CCI Maxi's. Hopefully I will replacing it soon.

You've gotta be a fan of the "Buntline Special" to want a barrel that long. Personally, not my cup of tea and a bit harder to sell when the time comes. (and it always does)

I saw a second hand Bianchi flap holster for a Single Six 9.5" on GB recently...they wanted all the money and then some of course - but it was wicked cool.

Once winter sets in fully, I'll likely make my own holster for mine.

I find the 91/2 inch barrel a little cumbersom; but, to each his own said the old lady when she kissed the cow. I'm still shooting a six inch single six that I purchased in 1956. It is still accurate and no malfunctions.

Thanks for the input, it is helpful. I am still considering the 6.5", I will be making the final decision Monday. Why I am leaning towards the 9.5" barrel Single Six is I have shot my friend's 8" S&W revolver in 22lr and I like how the gun shoots. The longer barrel for target practice is a nice fit for me. The 6.5" just might be long enough but I have always had a liking of the unusual, something that when I take it out it gets everyone's attention and they just want try it out.
The one drawback is getting a holster if I need one in the future.

If you want cheap holsters - Uncle Mike's Hip Holster 8111-1 in size 11 is made for 9.5" barrel single and double action revolvers. They're on Ebay for around $20

You can also step up to the plate for a custom holster if you really like the gun.

My point is - there are holsters readily available for that gun. If it floats your boat, I'd buy it.

Well folks, I "pulled the trigger" and went to my local gun shop and put $200 down and ordered the Single Six with the long barrel. I should have it by the end of the week. I seriously considered getting the one with the 6.5" barrel but I wanted something a bit different, I just know it will be fun to shoot! I'll tell you all how it goes and if I get ambitious I will post some pics.
I will deal with the holster later...it's always fun to buy toys for my toys!

I have the 9.5" barrel on my Ruger .22 that I bought years ago. It came with a 2.5 power scope on it & is very accurate. You will love the gun!:D Find the right ammo & you will have a tack driver!

It might be in today at the gun shop, only problem is we are having a huge snowstorm today, probably won't bother driving in the pick it up if it does come in.
