Ruger security six

Ok I have just done some trading around and ended up with a 4" security six stainless. I have two questions. First any good factory grips out there? It has pacmyer grips and I don't like them at all. Second what's the going value on these guns? Thanks

I have the same gun and mine is a great shooter, I went with Hogue grips on mine but I do know Ruger "found" a box of target K frame type grips that they sold cheap a few years ago. You may look for a set of thoes, they look really nice. As far as price, I dont know what they are selling for these days but I will say they are a good solid revolver and I would not be in any hurry to get rid of it. Congrats on an excellent revolver.

Around here I see them from 375-450. I paid 375 for my stainless 4".

As for grips, I don't know. Mine had the "Presentation" grips and put the Hogue on mine.

Edited: I put Pach instead of Hogue as my new grips. Need more coffee:D

Not in a hurry to get rid of it. Here is how I got it... I traded a savage 93r17 for the ruger and a hi point 45.... I have not shot it but it seems to be a real nice find! I am a smith fan but this security six may sway me to owning a few rugers!

Yeah, I "USE" to own Smiths too LOL! I won't buy anything but Ruger now, be it pistol or revolver, can't beat the reliability and durability of these fine firearms.

The Security Six makes me look like I can shoot, can't miss with this tack driver

I own both Smith and Ruger's and like both, the Security Six is like a 4" K frame Smith and can use the same holsters.....Now all you have to do is get rid of the Hipoint and you will be good to go...:D Just kidding.......no really.....;)

Oh the hi point is on its way out the door. Found a buyer for it at $150!!! Way to go me. Now I'm sure I got the better end of that trade!!! I will post a pic of the six when I get home!

Seriously under rated revolvers

People are finally starting to understand this and they are becoming harder to find at bargain prices.

I have the 6" Security Six in stainless. Just curious, what don't you like about the Pachmyer grips. I thought about getting those for it.

I don't like the way they fit my hand. I had $400 in the savage. So if I can sell the hi point for $150 that would mean that I have $250 in the ruger!

^You did good! Never sell it, you will regret it! Best $250 you ever spent.

Two guns in my collection that I will not sell, the SS and my first gun I got when I was 11 years old, a Ted Williams 3T(Win 190). The Win has a terrible trigger but is so accurate and I have had it so long I can't let it go

love security sixes, remind me of scaled down redhawk, even the redhawk is a scaled up security six. One was for sale at my lgs, but I couldn't justify $600 for it. I got an excellent s&w 28-2 with original box for $500. I wouldn't hesitate to own a nice blued security six with a nice set of grashorn stags.

While they look a lot alike on the outside, the Redhawk's lockwork is unique. No other revolver has the single-spring design of the Redhawk.

SSs and RHs GREAT guns.

Gun Parts Corp. has the original grips in stock (assuming your gun has a 151 or higher prefix serial number).

That being said, it seems that a lot of the Ruger Six-series DA revolvers I see have aftermarket grips and, IMHO, for good reason. The factory grips on these guns only seem to fit people with very small hands well. While they're somewhat usable if shooting .38 Specials, stepping up to .357 Magnums makes the gun shift around so much in the hand that fast shooting is nearly impossible for most people. If you want a set of factory grips for originality, I can see buying a set but you'll likely find that a set of aftermarkets that fits you well will make the gun much more shootable. CDNN has a few different options in stock including Hogues and some very reasonably priced Siles.

The Ruger Speed and Security-Sixes came with for the most part with skinny service grips, made to the thrown away (my opinion). Back in the day we used to joke that when Ruger made his first gun, he purchased one tree to use for grips. And he was still using it.

There were only two quick fixes back then. You either put a T-grip on it, or you bought a set of Hogue's or Pachmayr's. I'm sure there were other aftermarket grips, but not many shops stocked them, and even fewer stocked them for a Ruger. I don't think I ever saw but a couple sets of Ruger factory target grips, and I know I never owned any.

I'll bet a lot of those service grips got tossed in the trash before the gun left the shop. I know mine did, and a set of Pachmayr "Gripper's" went on.

I like Pachmayr gripper grips, but on a Ruger they just look wrong. They don't follow the lines of the frame at all. I bought a Service Six a few years ago that came with the skinny grips. They don't fit my hand at all. Ruger was selling factory Target style grips a few years ago for 10 bucks. I should have bought more than one pair. They make the gun look amazing and are a big step up from the skinny factory.
