Ruger Security Six

I am thinking of buying one of these and would like to hear of some personal experiences. Please only reply if you own one or have shot one extensively. I would like to know of accuracy and reliability. I will probably be getting it from J and G sales and would like to know if anyone out there has purchased one from them. Thanks in advance for the help.

I have two Ruger Security Six revolvers. They are tough as nails and dead nuts reliable and accurate. I think these are some of the best revolvers ever made! Do some searches on this forum and you will see much of the same!

I have not dealt with J&G sales on a purchase, but they have always been quick to respond to questions via email and phone calls. Good luck.

I own one and have shot the dickens out of it (7-8thousand mild to medium and prolly a 600-800 hot)...I have even used it as a holster mold on more than one occasion...Still works like a champ

I replaced the springs in it last year...Had the same ones in it for at least 10 years maybe more...Still ran fine, just got a deal on some Wolff gunsprings

I have never regretted buying it

I agree with everything that has already been said about the Ruger Security Six! You can't beat-em! They are a GREAT revolver! They are reliable, tough, and "Good looking" too! The following pictures indicate just how much that I like them!:

Nice guns. I always regretted that they were discontinued.

Just out of curiousity, what's the difference between a Security Six and a Speed Six?

-- Sam

the security six has adjustable sights and the service six has fixed sights. some of the service six models had a round butt grip frame also.

Secutity six has adjustable sights, speed six does not. I own a pair of speed sixes.

They're home, not ever going to be sold. Good guns.

The Speed Six is on my short list of revolvers to get...Prolly gonna try and get one with a shorter barrell than 4in, though...

Boa..Sweet pics :D

Although you are correct that the Security Six has the adjustable sights and, the Service Six(Instead!)has the fixed sights, no Service Six ever had anything other than the same square butt grip frame, as the Security Six! However, the Speed Six, is identical to the Service Six(With fixed sights)EXCEPT, that it has the round butt, grip frame! The Speed Six, is the only "Six Series" revolver that has the round butt grip frame! :barf:

The above is also true, regarding the early(150 serial number prefix!)grip frames-EXCEPT, that these early grip frames are of a different size and shape(When compared to the later(151 and up S/N prefix))"Six Series" revolvers!

Thanks, for your nice compliments about my pictures! :D

I had forgotten about the speed six. I knew I had some round butt grips and had a friend of mine change my security six over to the round butt.

The Security Six is one great revolver!

I've shot thousands of .38 and .357 of all flavors through my 6" security six and this handgun is a marvel of innovative design and efficient function. Don't let the lean look of this handgun fool you - it's build like a tank, and amazingly accurate. The only mod I made to mine was a to put a larger set of grips on it. If the security six you're looking for is in decent shape, have no worries about buying it used.

I bought a 38spl speed six from J&G
this past weekend.I saw some of the
service six's they had and some
looked a little rough. They had lots
of little nicks in the top strap
but that shouldn't affect how they
shoot.I was looking for a 2¾"
security six but they didn't have
any left so i ended up with the 2¾"
blued speed six.No play at all in
the cylinder,2-3 very minor marks
and no wear on the recoil shield.
It's not bad for a $229.99 gun that
may be unfired :)

Two of the very finest "combat revolvers" ever made are the Ruger Security Six, and the S&W M19. If the price is right, go for it.

RUN!!! DONT WALK!! RUN AND BUY IT!!! I have a safe full of Security and Service Sixes. You really have to own one to see why they are loved so much.
Accuracy on mine are excellent. Even on the old banged up police trade ins. Mine love the 158 gr loads the best. On my favorite Security Six (a 4" Stainless) I had a trigger job done on it. This is truly a "one hole" shooter and has sent many a rattle snake, headless, to snake hell. :D
When I walks through the valley of the shadow of death I fear no evil, cuz I have my Security Six by my side.....

I have a Service Six, same gun, minus the adjustable sights. Great gun, extremely well built and reliable. Great weapon, you'll love it.

My mistake

I meant to put Police Service six. I made a mistake. Again I ask if anyone out there has one of these. Shoot good? DA or SA. Swing out cylinder or loading gate?

Sorry about the confusion

Ah yes, I have a Police Service Six. .357 Magnum, double action, swing out cylinder. Excellent firearm. Pictures below.

Whatever applies to the Security Six, also applies to the(Fixed sight)Police Service Six and to the Speed Six(As the only "Significant" difference between the Security Six and these guns, are the adjustable sights on the Security Six!)and therefore, mechanically, all of these revolvers are identical!

dasmi, you needed to use a cartridge casing to hold the open cylinder up on that pic? hmmmm interesting.

i have had a "special" love for the security six for many years and have always regreted when i traded one off (always felt like it was my favorite). i prefer the 6" barrel, blued or stainless has no preference to me., but the blued looks mighty fine with stag grips (i think i'll keep that one). you can't go wrong with a security six and paersonally, i think they're way under priced for what you get (thanks for a lot of them being out there). a wolff spring pac makes it even better. jlburdge
