Ruger Security Six - A Good Gun?

Webleymkv:

No truer words were ever spoken regarding the Security Six! You have covered all the bases(Pro and Con!)pertaining to these great revolvers! The handling(And, shooting comfort!)of these guns will improve greatly, even with just the larger wood target grips as shown in my pictures above! :D

The Six series revolvers are far, far, far, far, far better than the GP/SP abominations currently produced. Ruger took a svelt, good looking revolver with a decent trigger, and replaced it with a ugly, unergonomic, heavy triggered turd. Yet another reason I dislike Ruger.

The Sixes usually fetch right around two hundred bucks around here. Slightly more for Stainless adjustable sight guns, slightly less for blued fixed sight guns, with the rest in the middle. Great guns.

I bought a blued one from a Pawn shop a few months ago with 6 inch barrel for $240 had a SS in the same gun and wanted $340 for it. The SS guns are OK but me just have to like a blued gun more. And have to say it is one fine shooter, if I found another one with 4 inch barrel would buy it .:p :p

Ruger quit making the Sixes because they were too expensive. They required too much machining and hand fitting to be sold a Ruger prices. The GP100 and SP101 use investment casting which is much less expensive and also results in heavier guns.

Ruger Security Six is my favorite modern revolver.
Beastly strong
Uncommonly goodlooking
The RIGHT size for a .357
Simple to disassemble
Fine trigger
Great accuracy

Really sturdy guns that have become classics. I have a Smith 66, btw... and use it mostly for shooting .38's.

Great guns i had one in ss 4in barell. My 25yr old daughter asked for one of my wheelguns for home protection after some breakins in her area.
She is an experienced shooter so i had no problem with this and gave her pick and choice.
Oh well' at least she has good protection and i've seen her shoot this gun with 158gr jhp. She also does very well with the little 20ga pump i bought her years ago and i stocked her up on oo buckshot.
My son in law is away from home some but the BG who thinks this pretty young woman or her two kids are an easy mark is in for a really bad day.
