Ruger revolvers with no lock?

The Ruger locks (and yes their DA offerings have them) seem to be lip service to some regulation or liability concern. Having to remove a grip to engage a lock renders it so inconvenient as to never be used. My used Taurus 851 is nearly the same with an external lock requiring a tool to engage it that I've never seen. They don't bother me one whit and I don't fell they affect dependability at all.

I think S&W could up their sales if they hid the locks like Ruger has. They are not used anyway. That ugly hole on the side is more a turnoff than any worry I have about the thing failing.

I think you are missing something!

Hi guys!

I think you are missing something!

I got a new Rugrer LCR 357 recently. It has the “under the grip” internal lock. I do not object to the lock. If there were no “funny” looking keys in the box and I had not read the instruction manual, I would not have known the lock was there.

The revolver has a good, but not great trigger pull. The trigger pull is a “little” heavier than I like. Certainly not as good as the DA pull on my S&W revolvers. But in fairness, my S&W revolvers all have spring kits and polishing performed by a competent gunsmith.

Here is what you are missing! The “lock” appears to be a part of the main spring retention system. It is not shown in the “exploded view” in the instruction manual. Nor are there instructions as to how to remove the “lock” for main spring replacement.

I fear the trigger pull I “got” from the factory, is the trigger pull I will have as long as I own the pistol.

And I object to that!

I have the same lock in my NewVaq357 and I installed aftermarket springs that became available VERY quickly for the lock-equipped guns. The mainspring involved is shorter than it otherwise would be, otherwise there's no problem whatsoever swapping springs around.

On edit: you'd need different springs for the LCR357 but I'd bet they're available...googling now...
