I don't particularly go for the "Go to any IDPA competition and see what the majority are using" analogy. A lot of people when they go out to buy their first handgun or whatever go for what is in "fashion", I have seen it numerous times in the gun shops. I did the Glock thing, shot it well, but the gun wasn't for me. Traded it and got a Ruger P94, I definetly shoot better with the Ruger over the Glock. If at all possible you should go out and try them before you buy. If the Glock is what he handles best get the Glock, if the Ruger is what is handled best get the Ruger.
