Ruger model 1

One of the good things about Ruger is that they produce a lot of different products and variations and there is available now the No. 1 in .303 British. There was a time when I would have traded everything for one, just for the novelty, and I guess maybe I still would, if I had enough to trade. Nothing special about the .303, to be sure, but sooner or later they'll probably have one in 8mm Lebel. The .303 British version is in the light sporter variation, which comes with iron sights.

I've only owned a few Ruger rifles over the years but I've always thought they used some of the nicest woods for most of them.

I own a Ruger No.1 in 45-70.

1. You'll know when you fire it, but I don't consider the recoil on it to be too bad. It is certainly stout but I don't have any issues with it. My buddy owns a .375 H&H Ruger No.1 and that, while very stout, is manageable as well.

2. Accuracy can be a mixed bag, but mine is surprisingly accurate out to 100 yards. Keep in mind, these are hunting rifles, not target rifles.

3. It's a falling block action. They are strong and reliable as any other action out there.

4. Ruger has great customer service but your gun shouldn't need any trips back to Ruger.

5. I bought a virtually NIB Ruger No.1 for $600. To me it was certainly worth it. It's a nice looking gun and a treat to hunt with.
