Ruger MK II SS Target

I don't think the MKII has been cleaned in years. Took a while to clean it up.

Finally got out to the range today and got a few rounds thru it.

Best group so far was Remington Target.

love the MKII

Nice Ruger, good buy! I just bought a Mark ii Government Target model, already had two Mark iii's, a Target and a Competition Target. The Government Target looked brand new, still had the sticker and the working parts were not worn. Did a cleaning and took it to the range, nice smooth trigger and accurate, but it would fail to eject every third, or fourth time. After 20 plus rounds, it failed to extract.

Took it home, tore it completely down (didn't remove hammer, sear and trigger), cleaned it and re-assembled it. The internals were filthy, probably the worst I've ever seen. Everything looked good. Off to the range, the trigger pulls lighter, but is rough; I guess the crud made it smooth. It will not extract at all, seems the extractor just slips off.

Can you post a couple of photos of the extractor? It could be as easy as just replacing the thing.

But what I'd do immediately is call Ruger and talk to one of their tech people and explain the problem to them. Also, compare one of your present extractors with the one that doesn't work. If you have some fine jewellers files and a small vise, you may be able to re-shape it somewhat.

Take a look at this third-party extractor and consider it as a viable option. For ten bucks it may be what you need.

For exactly the same pistol... I paid $319.95 before tax in early June, 1994.

It truly is one of my very best handguns. I have very recently purchased the Volquartsen guts for it, just need to find a free weekend afternoon and install them. This after 21.5 years of shooting it just as it was shipped. :p What can I say? My desire for a slightly upgraded trigger has evolved like a fine wine.

That's a real steal you got there. I saw the exact same gun at a local shop this afternoon, but it was no where near as great a condition as yours. The dealer also wanted $379.95 which I thought was just a bit overpriced considering the condition.

I already have the blued version so I really wasn't interested, at least not at that price anyway.

I was at a gun show yesterday and seen 3 blued models, they were priced 250.00 with quite a bit of bluing wore off and 2 at 300.00 that were decent but not as nice as yours.
