Ruger MarkII target rifle 243

I found a Ruger MarkII heavy barrel 243 in a LGS and was wondering if anyone knows how accurate these guns are? I have owned other hunting rifles in Ruger and they were all ok for hunting but nothing special. I have always found Savage and Remington to our shoot them. I really liked this Ruger and thought if it would shoot it would be a good one for my collection I love heavy barrel accurate rifles. I have several still like std barrels for deer rifles but for varmint and bench heavy is better. Just wanted input. It looks nearly new with light colored stainless barrel laminate stock beautiful rifle for $749. I would like to make trade on it. Thanks

Years ago I had a ruger 77 varment (heavy barrel) in 220 swift. it would shoot dime size holes all day long.
 
@roc1: My experience has been pretty much the same as yours. Given manufacturing vagaries, I know there has to be a bad savage out there somewhere, but I've never found or seen one.

Some will disagree, but rugers from the 70's and 80's never gave me better than hunting accuracy (2 to 3 inch, 3 shot groups at 100 yds). However, rugers manufactured in the past 10 to 15 years seem to have closed the performance gap with other rifles. I have ruger KVT's chambered for .204 ruger and .22 hornet. The accuracy potential of both rifles is better than my skill.

So if the .243 ruger, which you're considering, is recently manufactured, then I would go for it.
 
Probably the rifle will be a great shooter. I also had a Ruger 77V in 220 Swift with the heavy barrel and it was a wonderful shooter. It now has a skinny barrel and is still a wonderful shooter.

Ruger 77V's from back in the 70's (I can't speak for the 80's) had a mix of barrels. Some were Shilen. From what I've read, all were great shooters, with some being better than great.
 
I have a Ruger M77 Tactical in 308 Win. Before I glassbedded the thing it was of acceptable accuracy at the start, then groups spread started to increase laterally. I concluded the action was sliding in the stock. So I did an amateurishly crappy glass bedding job with drips, runs and unsightly grind marks on the outside the stock.

But it shot much better. I believe these Ruger made barrels are good barrels.

I have the MKII VT in .243 pretty sure it shoots better than I do,most of the time stays under 1'' groups with just about everything not picky at all.
Good trigger but its pretty heavy for day trips.ALL in all a pretty nice rifle.:D
 
I have one, I took it out yesterday @ 300 yards not bad. I am usually around 1 MOA. My best was .75 MOA.

It really is picky on the powder and bullets. It took me a very long time to get a load it likes.
