Ruger Mark III reliability

Ruger Mark III

It's the only handgun I own I can't disassemble / reassemble. It fires anything without issues. It was 100% reliable out of the box when I bought it in 1994 and still is. It's amazing.

As most have said, the Ruger Mark series are reliable, very reliable. My 1969 Mark I has over 34,000 rounds and is still reliable and as accurate as when I got it. I did finally replace the springs, not because of a problem but after 45 years it seemed like a good idea. I did replace the LCI on my Mark III not for reliability reasons but to improve accuracy and consistency.

I had a MK III that started to jam a couple of times a magazine. Of course I had several thousand rounds through it without being cleaned or lubed really. A shot of WD-40 got it running again that day, and a good cleaning and lubing later on took care of the problem for good.

This one only has issues if the round is a dud otherwise its shot everything every time.
Must be original is better than rest.

My mk3 22/45 lite is very reliable. I can't recall a malfunction that was not due to ammo or lack of lube. It does seem to like lube. I run mine suppressed too.

My FiL has had one forever and shot thousands of rounds through it. It never fails unless the round is a dud. In fact, lately he has been shooting up a brick of cheap stuff he bought 20 years ago and kind of forget about; he has had no problems with it.

I have a similarly reliable Buck Mark. It will shoot anything but the very pointy hollow points. I wouldn't be surprised if those gave the Mark III problems also.
