Ruger Mark I, II, III, IV &22/45 Pistols

I've never had a problem with them not running well. the lites don't shoot as aaccurately as the target models but that's about it.

Both my .22 handguns are Rugers---a stainless MkIII Target and stainless Single Six-----they don't get shot much because of the limited availability of .22 ammo----yes, still hit and miss finding ammo around here.

Every other .22 handgun I've owned have been a disappointment so I'll stick with my Rugers.

22/45 with wooden grips. bushing mod, Tandemkross trigger, Volq's sear, removed the LCI, Bushnell TRS 25 red dot sight. works well..

Favorite 22lr pistol is a 5in Blued Mark II bull barrel. Put on aftermarket rear target site years ago, and it is broken in very nice. only clean it when the filth affects the functioning. With my memory, have to read the instructions every time I dissemble it.

I've got a MK III 22/45. I put a Volquartzen trigger kit in it and the thing is just magic to shoot.....Take it apart a time or two and you'll have it. Never understood why people couldn't figure it out....not being able to read and comprehend instructions I guess.

I have three Ruger MKII's, and one MKII era 22/45. For me the MKII is the pinnacle even over the new MKIV. I never had a problem with takedown, nor reassembly. My CZ Kadet gives them a run for their money, however.

Lots of Ruger Mark users here and lots of good information about them. Do a search or just look through the posts and you'll find it.

If you really, really want to get to the 'holy grail' of .22 info you could also try

use them IN ADDITION to us...but don't abandon us for that site cause you'll miss A LOT!!!

I have a Ruger Mark II and tend to like Mark II's over the Earlier Mark I and later Ruger pistols. IMHO, the Mark II's are the best of breed. Some don't like the Mark II mag release, so the later ones are a better fit for them.

The Ruger Marks are the gold standard for .22LR semi-automatic pistols. I just scored a gently used one from a fellow Calgunner. Pics when I get it home after the ten-day Democrat wait.

I have had a Mark II bull barrel stainless model for over 20 years. Been one of the only pistols I have never sold or traded. As I was looking over the safe for a cleaning was asking the wife a couple of questions, she didn't answer me but was sure to tell me that the Mark II is never to be sold. She loves that gun. Not to mention, I do too. Perfect plinking gun. Accurate and just fine out of the box.

I have an older Mark I. The only issue I have is that the original magazine won't cycle hollow points. The couple newer magazines I have are fine with HP's. Otherwise it cycles any brand of ammo without any issues. Mine is pretty accurate to boot.

It is interesting that when the Ruger ($37.50) first came out (it was called simply "the Ruger Automatic Pistol" - the first Mark I was the later target version) it was given no chance against the Colt Woodsman and the High Standard pistols. In case no one has checked lately, the Colt is long gone and the H-S about done, but the "cheap, stamped out junk" Ruger is still selling well. I think Bill Ruger was pretty smart, though what he would think of some of today's S-R products I don't know.

Worc, have you tried different brands of HPs? My Mk2 doesn't like Winchester because of the truncated shape but does ok with Rem that are rounded on the end.

I remember when the $37.50 Rugers first hit the gun mags.
The real genius IMO was designing it to look a LOT like a Luger.

Lugers were THE gun in 1949!

I certainly wouldn't, nor would I recommend, that anybody abandon one .22 Ruger site for another, especially when it involves the Ruger Mark pistols. All sites that have devoted members who actively use their Ruger Mark pistols have experiences and shooting enjoyment that never hurts to read about.

I've worked with and on these pistols since 1971, and I've kept some very extensive notes on what things can go wrong and what an owner can do to fix that issue without a return trip to the "mother-ship". I've been mainly involved with RFC (since 2004) and the Ruger Mark forums, but have recently branched out to visit other forums, like this one, just to see what interests involve the Ruger Mark pistols and to see what issues, if any, owners come across these days.

Here's something you might try when shooting hollow-points. Make sure the first round out of your magazine is positioned like the picture on the right, especially with hollow-point rounds. They seem to make it into the chamber more freely and less likely to smack nose first into the feed ramp.
