Ruger M1 Carbine

There wouldn't be enough market for Ruger to build an M1 carbine.

And they're moving so many Scouts right now they can't keep up with demand. They've experimented with stainless & other calibers, but they're waiting till they catch up to expand Scout offerings.

It ain't a Garand & I've never (until here) heard anybody call it a Garand. :)
Not developed by the same people, not the same design, not the same gun.

There's a kit available to put on a 10/22 that makes the furniture look like a Carbine. Put a 20 rounds banana mag on that and it sorta looks like an M-2.

I remember reading that the design of the 10/22 was inspired by the Carbine.

I think a modern incarnation of the Carbine in some caliber other than .30 Carbine would be pretty nifty.

The m1 carbine is definitely a spin off on the M1 garand action. The gas system is different, but the double rotating lugs and op rod can in no way be mistaken for anything else.

I would be happy if they just brought back the PC9 carbine.
+1 to that. Have both a PC-9 and PC-40 and they are superb guns. Only wish I could figure out how to thread them for a can without having to SBR them.

/Has ten 11 round "LEO Only" marked mags for the PC-40.

Given the neatly modest proportions and cartridges of the PC9 and 40, I always thought they were about 3/4 of a pound too heavy--again for what they shot. I'd like to see Ruger bring them back, but put them on a serious M1 Carbine diet, provide a reasonably high cap magazines--maybe at least matching the SR9 pistol's 17 rd (with option for more)--and maybe provide a "premium/classic" walnut variant while they're at it...would make great SD/HD and plinking weapons. In the meantime, my Inlands do just fine in these regards. I do like the idea of a brand new pistol-caliber auto carbine for the really close-in stuff and clomping around. Never warmed to the .44 Rugers, perhaps 'cause of the limited rotary mags. I like the CX's--a little Buck Rogers in looks for me, but functionally seems to do it.

gak-mec gar makes 17 round flush fit mags for the p-series 9mm pistols and 20 extended mags. haven't tried the 20's but I have 3 17's that work awesome.

A perfectly justified criticisim. I think it is perfectly weighted though, IMHO what you get for that extra weight is well worth it in sturdyness. One of the few guns one would feel comfortable using to deliver a beatdown with. (Since it doesn't have a bayonet lug.:p )

The PC series were originally marketed to LEOs to be a combo package with the P-series of handguns with the carbine being a trunk or dash gun. Not only did it give the average officer superior range to a shotgun, it also gave them mag and ammo interchangeability. Given that sort of marketing mindset it is easy to see why they figured to make them beefier and heavier for better durability rather than lighter weight.

Reliable 20 round mags for the PC-9 are readily available, though the PC-40 is limited to 11 round factory mags and supply of those is limited.:(

That would be a nice looking gun indeed. My only problem with that is that you would have to heavily redesign the gun as the stock of the PC-9 contains the trigger group and wood would not be a suitable material for holding that together. Though perhaps that would not be that hard. I could see a properly modified Mini-14 type trigger group taking care of that.

Yea, me neither. The 4 round magazine is what killed the deerfields, the 77/44 does fine with a 4 rounder, but an auto certainly needs the option of a larger magazine. If it had had a reliable 10 round magazine you would have certainly seen it be very popular as an anti-bear/anti-moose gun. A 6.25 pound semi-auto rifle with 10+1 rounds of 44 mag ready to go? I think such a combo would have sold relatively well.

Good discussion we are having.:)

I agree. even an 8 round mag would sell me on them. or desert eagle mags would be nice
