Ruger M1 Carbine

Since Ruger just made the SR 1911 maybe we could petition them to make the M1 Carbine. I would be first in line for one. Good or bad idea?

not a bad idea. it wouldn't even have to be a clone of an M1 carbine. just something light chambered for .30 carbine. it would be really cool if they adapted it to shoot other calibers too. a .45 acp that uses 1911 mags, a .357mag version maybe and the like.

realistically though, probably never gonna happen. I would be happy if they just brought back the PC9 carbine.

I don't know about the 30 cal carbine, hard to beat the USGI M1.

But, Ruger use to make a semi in 44 Mag, similar to the carbine. I'd like to see that re-introduced in 38/357.

They should make one that dosen't say "M1 Carbine" on it so it is legal in NJ. The M1 Carbine if not specifically listed on the ban wouldn't have enough assault weapon features to get it banned in the first place. The only problem is that no one makes a new M1 in which they change to name. Maybe ruger could make the "R1 Carbine" so I could have it.

Three is a place on their website where you can e- mail the CEO directly. Says he reads every one.

Of course, Thompson/Khar makes new M1 Carbines now.

and the reputation is spotty at best. NTM when I got my inland carbine it was $100 less than the AO they had in stock.

what I do to get around this is live in Oregon:p we don't even have waiting periods to buy handguns.

Wow didn't think those banned gun lists were that specific and easy to bypass.

Auto Ordnance makes new M1 Carbines. Kinda pricey but I guess it's worth it for a carbine straight off the assembly line. Anyone know if those are any good?

Would be cool if Ruger made a M1 Carbine chambered in 5.56...........oh wait, they already do :p

not worth it. reputation isn't good and last time I saw one it was MORE than a real GI. but that was at big 5 and the real one was on sale. anyway look for an inland which will run $600-700 or I think CMP might still have barreled receivers so you can put together a mixmaster.

I'd rather have a new one too so I don't even up wrecking a piece of history but that's the best way to go for a reliable one.

I wish someone would make a stock that resembled an M1 Carbine Paratrooper stock for a Mini 14. That would be nice.
I do think there's a market for small, light carbines, so how about a modern one chambered in 9mm or .40? With a nice wood stock... I'd buy one, anyhow.

ruger used to make carbines like that. the PC-9 and PC-4 and they took ruger p-series mags. they discontinued them about 10 years ago or so:mad: no woods stocks though. also marlin had the camp carbines with wood stocks also discontinued:mad::mad::mad: and they had one in .45acp that used 1911 mags.

Kraig- You mean one of these? A Ruger Deerfield in .44Mag. I bought it a few months ago from a friend who needed some cash....

The only Ruger garand that would tempt me at the moment would be the release of the XGI.

I am puzzled that they would come out with a mediocre release like the scout (which I am sure is cheaper to make) instead of a gun that would sell through the roof if it ever came out.

Right now the 308 garand market is not very competitive.

Yeah thats the one, I think in a 38/357 that would be the cats meow, a fun plinking gun.

Yeah I've seen some of the Camp Carbines by Marlin at gunshows, they just look and feel kind of cheap to me. And the Deerfields never did it for me, either.
I'm wanting a scaled-down Mini chambered in .40. Something the size of the Keltec folding carbines, only more classic looking.
