Ruger LCR 9MM or 38 special

I've been looking on line at another GS that I have purchased before and they show one for $506. I'm still going to check a couple others.
Ask around, but $506 still sounds like a fair price. Get it tomorrow, shoot it and report back so I'll know if I should get mine or not. :p

The 9mm is obviously superior to the 38spl from a ballistics standpoint.

Recoil of the 9mm is about equal to the 38+P because the 9mm LCR is heavier than the 38 LCR.

in the light weight guns, a good bullet crimp is needed as pointed out above... 9mm only gets a taper crimp, & may prove to be problematic ???

I just bought a 38 Special ( rated for +P ) LCR-X ( with exposed hammer )

I also have an air weight J frame in 32 H&R magnum, & an Air Lite L frame in 44 Special... I use a Redding Profile crimp die on all my light weight & magnum snubbies after having some 454 Casull bullets jump crimp in my Alaskan... Lee Factory crimp dies also work well, but I feel I get more consistent & tighter crimps with the Profile Crimp die...

while the 9mm LCR is heavier... I'd still be concerned about bullets pulling crimps with factory ammo or a standard taper crimp handload...

The .38 weighs 13.5 oz. & has a polymer frame . While the .357 & 9mm weigh 17.1 & have steel frames .

Small correction here. The weights are correct but the .38 has an aluminum frame, not polymer. The 9mm and .357 have steel frames. Both models have polymer grip frames, or "fire control housings".

I have full confidence the taper crimp in a 9mm will hold up just fine to a revolver. there have been numerous 9mm revolvers and have never heard of an issue with the crimp being insufficient

The 9mm will hit your target a little harder but how much of a difference will it really make? Take some time to think about that. Then weigh that against a slightly larger and slightly heavier frame with a little more kick. If it seems worth it, start comparing 9mm and .357 magnum.

Of course, if you love moon clips, the decision is clear. :)

The way I see it, the 9mm LCR is a great pocket gun for people who are committed to 9mm, whether for cost reasons, because they love 9mm, because their other guns are nines, or because their other guns are not .38/.357s. It puts their 9mm ammo in a comfortable and reliable package for pocket carry.

since I don't have a 9mm... I'm just speculating... however how many previous 9mm revolvers weighed as little as the LCR ??? the lack of weight of the gun, weighs heavily in bullet crimp jump...
