Ruger LCR 357

Don't know how much experience you have shooting double action revolvers. Personally been shooting S&W all my life. Recently had the chance to pick up a Ruger LCR. I think you will be pleasantly surprised. The trigger pull has me convinced Ruger got a winning design with this one.

I used to own a S&W 442 put about 50 rounds through it but its the only DAO experience I have so far. All my other wheel guns were SA/DA

Grats, man! Honestly, I don't think I'd even worry with .357s in that thing. Buffalo Bore has a 158 gr. .38 +P they have pushed to close to .357 range. From what I understand, it's an amazing snub round. I'll see if I can find a link to it.

Just picked it up

Going to the range tomorrow

wadcutter ammo

loading 150 gr wadcutter lately. manageable...allows good shot placement...and thinking a 24 inch wound channel adds up to a LOT of wound.
Curious if a wad cutter that penetrates 24 inches vs a hollow point that penetrates 12 creates much less of a wounding? We would be talking a significant permanent wound channel and a cartridge not much deterred by bone. Sort of like a 38 calilber 24 inch long screwdriver slammed through a person I'd guess. No worries about expansion or plugging the hollow point with leather or denim and no recoil issues to speak of and no plus p required.
In shorty revolvers a good relatively inexpensive ammunition and I'd think an effective loading.

ugly little rascal

Despite my bias towards ugly guns, I've heard really good things about the trigger on them.

Hope you are able to get a good assortment of ammo to play around with...125 grain and 158 grain .357 magnum and some .38 specials in different weights too and maybe some .38 special +P.

With a good assortment of ammo you'll really see what the gun can do and what you like.

Couldn't wait any longer grabbed my 38 specials and a few 357's and went to the range

Fired about 50 38's and about 20 357's this is one of the targets. The lower right were the 357's couldn't seem to get to the center. while I could place the 38's closer to the bullseye

Even with the guns light weight the 38's were very comfortable to shoot. The rubber grip goes a long way to help with this. The +p's are good too, noticeable difference but not bad. The 357's after about 10 rounds i was ready to go back to the 38's

Congrats! I have the LCR in 38spl and think it has a far better out of the box trigger and less recoil than the 638 or 642 I used to own. I went with the .38spl model because I know I'd never want to shoot .357 in it. I leave that to my GP100. I've read a few times that the .357 really doesn't achieve it's potential out of snub barrels anyway.

It does have more punch, but not a large amount. It's a trade up really when factoring in recoil, muzzle blast and follow up shots. I'm not trying to start an argument either since there's endless studies and tests online to look up on the two rounds in a snub, but I'd rather have +P 38spl loadings and faster follow up shots. Now with my GP100, .357 all the way.

Very nice shooting. I'm liking that little Ruger, but I already have a S&W PC 642 that has an amazing trigger. It is limited to 38's only though. It is a TALO edition so it has the wood grips. They look nice, but I'm thinking that a nice set of rubbers would be better, since on my last trip to the range I shot a bunch of 130 grain 38's and decided that those rounds really needed to be the most powerful I would ever shoot out of the 642. I also have some 158 grain 38's, but am not real sure they will ever be fired out of the 642. I'll save them for my 4" GP100, not THAT's a sweet shooting 38 and 357 pistol, but not near as concealable as the LCR.
