Ruger LCP or Ruger LCR

I am in need of a good back up/deep concealment gun. Which would you prefer? The semi-auto in .380 or revolver in 38spl? Any other suggestions?

The LCP will be a little easier to conceal and gives you 6+1 rounds

The LCR being a revolver is more reliable and gives you 5 rounds of the more potent .38spcl or if you choose the slightly heavier .357

That being said since its a backup gun I would go with either or, but if it was the only gun I was carrying I would go with the LCR hands down. I do tend to favor revolvers for my carry guns.

As a back up or deep concealment gun the best choice is the LCP. It's smaller and easier to conceal than a j-frame type revolver. Nothing wrong with snubs by the way, I carry one myself. but the LCP really is a pocket / go any where gun based on its size.

The LCP is pretty damn reliable too.

They're both fine. I love my LCP though... So thin, light... Easy to carry and conceal. I carry mine IWB with 10/rd. ProMag. If you buy LCP for BUG/deep concealment, I recommend getting the 10-rd. mag so you can experiment with it and at least have it on hand. My LCP is very reliable but I load with FMJ's to enhance that reliablity even further plus some experts say that FMJ's are most appropiate in .380 to insure decent penetration.

The LCR shoots pretty well, but I'd recommend staying with standard pressure or mild +P loads.

I haven't shot an LCP. The ones I have seen others shoot at a couple ranges... Either the guns are hard to shoot well, or else the several shooters I've seen were all new guys who bought a small CCW as their first handgun. Either is plausible.

Either one. I'd probably end up with the LCR in .357 and shoot .38 out of it at the range, .357 loaded for carry.

Yep, I agree!

For a deep concealment option- definitely the LCP.

As far as shooting it- once you get used to the long trigger pull it's quite accurate for such a short barreled gun.

LCR or LCP

I have them both. For the deep concealment the LCP is the way to go. My wife prefers the revolver of the LCR. If I am not worried about deep concealment I go with the LCR.

They each have different strengths and different uses. Get them both and you will always be happy.:D

I used to own an LCR, and currently own a 442, and I can't really say I've noticed any difference in concealability.

Oddly, the LCR trigger seemed easier than the 442's, which feels heavier, but I shoot the 442 better.

I believe the LCP is the way to go. You can conceal it, access it fast, and unload it quick. As far as knockdown, that depends on what the guy is on that's trying to attack you. They are both great guns and made for close range. Maybe it's more of a toss up. I've owned them both either is a fine piece to own.

The LCP is my summer carry piece. It fills a role and I don't feel outgunned with 7 rounds of 380 JPHs. It shoots well for me. But I did have to paint the front sight white to help me out. The LCR just seemed to bulky for pocket carry for me.
