Ruger LCP Custom vs. Taurus TCP

I have been having a debate for a couple of weeks now on which gun to purchase. First I realize that quite a few people here are not fans of either gun. My question is for those who have fired both. I have fired the Taurus TCP but not the Ruger LCP Custom. I am a woman so the recoil is a bit snappy as everyone already knows. But because I've never fired to Ruger LCP Custom I have to wonder if maybe the recoil on the Ruger is a bit softer than the Taurus. I like the trigger on the Taurus better the Ruger LCP but again I've never fired the custom. Can anyone who has fired both help me out here. Which gun has the smoothest trigger and the least amount of recoil?

I have not fired the lcp custom but ive fired the lcp and owned the tcp.

I strongly recommend people not buy the tcp. The 300 or so rounds i shot through it I would say about 75 had issues. that was using a mix of different ammo, and the problems continued even after having in returned to the factory for repairs. I sold it as quick as I could.

The LCP customs trigger feels better than the original LCP to me. I cannot speak to the recoil. For the prices right now I would get an LCP custom, it is a quality gun and will perform very well for its size.

Also for what its worth I will be buying an LCP custom sometime down the road, so if you get it and dont like it send me a message haha.

Ruger vs Taurus

Thank you, I've read some love the Taurus some hate it. The biggest thing that holds me back is not being about to shoot it. The shooting range where I rent guns does not have the LCP custom for rent.

I say get the LCP Custom, and get a Hogue grip for it.

They only cost $8.00 or $10.00 bucks and make a world of difference in the felt recoil.
My wife and I have them on our LCP's, and so does our daughter.

I buy the Ruger The Taurus hate is well earned . I got 1 pistol out of three that worked. Their warranty service was a joke Sent one back 2 times for a lite strike issue . That was never address got new grips and feed ramp polished. Dealer allow me what I paid in trade on a better pistol.
Ruger or else a KelTec 6 in my house and not 1 problem :D

Ruger over Taurus every time. Many brag about Rugers customer service, never heard anyone do that about Taurus.

Thanks

Thank you all for the advise. I decided to get the Ruger LCP custom. Maybe I can come back with a review on how this one shoots compared to the Taurus.

I can attest the TCP has been excellent for me. The only issue I've had is several times while using FMJ round nose ammo the slide has locked backed with one round left in the mag. I switched to Hornady Critical Defense ammo that has a more conical shape and it never happened again. I like the trigger pull and can shoot pretty good groups at 10-15ft.

I bought a TCP about 5 years ago. Its been a consistent shooter for me. I don't take it out to the range a lot but when I do its been a good shooter. No problems. I did buy a Taurus 709 slim and it was junk at least for me. Would not shoot without jamming and my brother bought the slim in 40 and had the same issues. Taurus does make some very good guns. The PT92s are every bit as good as the Beretta and I own both. The revolvers are very good guns also. Some people are brand loyal and will not give Taurus a chance. If you get a chance to buy a TCP at a good price pick one up. lifetime warranty from Taurus. As far as Ruger I like Ruger and own some of their guns but they are not infallible. They had accuracy problems with the Mini14 and finally admitted it but blamed it on over used dies, and I just bought a 308 Ruger American and it could not shoot less than 6 inch groups at 100 yards on a lead sled with nikon scope. Its back at Ruger as I type being looked at. The gun should shoot with any ammo 3 inch groups at worst at 100 yds and that is nothing to brag about. Ruger said they test at 50 yds so it should shoot 1.5 inch groups at worst at that range. We will see how RGR handles my problem.

I have 250 rounds through my LCP with zero issues and it shoots tight little groups at 15-20 yards.

I have yet to own any Taurus that would beat a Ruger in fit, finish, or function.

The TCP weighs 8.5% more than the LCP-C, so the TCP will have that much less free-recoil energy. While the LCP-C is blowback-operated, the TCP is recoil-operated; thus, the TCP makes the recoild do a bit more work, which means even less energy to batter you. I wouldn't expect the difference in felt recoil to be dramatically different, though.

I would expect the LCP-C to have the better trigger.

If the recoil is troubling, you have three choices:

- Deal with it (a grip sleeve might help some, as mentioned above, but mentally choosing to not view it as a problem is more important),

- Get a larger .380 Auto, eg, EAA Pavona (60% less free recoil energy than the LCP-C), or

- Get a pocket pistol chambered in .32 Auto, eg, Kel-Tec P-32 (50% less free recoil energy than the LCP-C).

While I've never fired the LCP-C. I chose my TCP over the Kel Tec and Ruger LCP when I was looking for a lightweight carry pistol. The Taurus had the better trigger, fit my large hands and most importantly, last round hold open. I've never had a problem with my mouse gun. It gets 25 rounds or a tad more run through it at least once a month. I never leave home without it and trust it. Now I will say this and this will apply to other small hammer fired pistols. I went a while longer between range trips once. When I did go to the range, I drew, leveled, and *click*. That was odd so at the table I disassembled it. And what I found was that since the hammer pocket on the back of the slide is open, clothing lint had collected in there and some got between the hammer and firing pin. So that was a lesson learned. I now bust her down once a week and brush out the firing pin pocket and hammer area on the frame. Depending on how you look at it, but for me I didn't classify it as the guns fault. So to me she has been trouble free. Thats the reason one SHOULD get to know their carry gun and fire it often. As far as ammo goes any round with the XTP bullet ( American Gunner, Precision One, HPR, etc) performs well out of these mouse guns. The test was compelling enough for me to switch from critical defense.

The LCP and the Taurus are both locked breach, not blowback,

Less recoil? I don't know about all that. My TCP is a snappy little critter. Hence the 25 round mark at range time. The old hand starts to sting a bit at that point, but its not a range hound. Its made for a purpose and it serves that purpose well. I would like to fire the LCP-C though. I will agree that the fit and finish on it is awesome looking. But at 199.00 bucks the TCP was hard to put down. I feel like it was well worth the cost. Until it gives me a problem I will continue to praise it. I went in full knowing the claims of Taurus' customer service.

I have had both the TCP and now have the LCP.
With factory ammo I did not have a problem with ether one.
The TCP did have some issues with hand loads. Seemed that it did not like med to hard primers. I.E. Winchester, Remington, Tula, Wolf.
Would get multiple light strikes.
Switched to only using CCI and federal primers and the problem went away.

Dont know how the LCP fairs with the same primers. Since I have just continued the same primer rotation.

I did not consider a Taurus because of the obvious bashing "gun snobs" give them until I traded for an old one and it was a good revolver. I figured I would take a chance on a $200 TCP because it was one of the only affordable mouse guns that had last shot hold open. It is a good concealed carry choice and I would get it again.

Today's Shoot

I shoot both guns today. If I'm honest I'd say I'm a better shoot with the TCP. It feels as though the trigger on the TCP is a bit lighter. I could be wrong. But there was a big difference in recoil. The LCP-C is much much better. The TCP hurts my hand and the LCP-C is manageable. The sites are a nice bonus for a newby like me. My husband said he couldn't tell a difference in shooting the guns. His hands are much stronger than mine so the recoil might not have felt like much of a difference to him. However for me it was huge. I would pick the LCP Custom over the Taurus simply for the recoil improvement. The TCP really is snappy for me and hurts my hands.
