Ruger LCP custom for Backpacking?

If you are one of those ultralight types, cutting the handle off your toothbrush, etc., then the LCP is the way to go. When I go light I carry my P32 and feel just fine about it. Quick to access in the zipper pouch on my pack's belt and is absolutely invisible. In (black) bear country I might step up to an ultralight snub with hardcast .38s.

Solo, I feel justified in carrying less gun. Herding the kids, I step up to a 9mm Shield, or 3" SP101 in bear country, but then with the kids I am covering much less ground.

Toothbrush??? Haven't hiked with one for years. Might as well strap a brick to my pack:p
This time of year I even ditch my sleeping bag and tent for a down jacket and 1lb goretex bivy sack. Shaves about 5lbs.

You guys are funny amateurs. Why on earth would you bother with frivolities such as personal hygiene and shelter when you backpack :D

Seriously though, seems like the Marine Corps was worried about adding more weight during ruck marches than reducing weight. 60 pounds? That's all??? Here's a M2 receiver, have fun.

I certainly understand not going with a 40 oz sidearm if you do serious off trail hiking. I get that. 12 oz vs 16 oz, though? At the end of the day I don't think you'll notice any real difference. I've put in miles with a pack both in and out of the military, so I have a little experience

I'm not certain an LCP custom will fit a DeSantis pocket holster unless DeSantis makes the holster for the higher sights.

My DeSantis pocket holster held a P3AT (original version) for many years. Now it holds a BodyGuard380 (no laser version). And since I bought a LCP-C just two days ago, it may yet hold another little pistol.

I haven't shot the LCP yet but have tried it in the DeSantis. It fits fine.

I will pay attention to the slide finish since it is just blued carbon steel. Ditto the barrel.

Who will be shooting the little Ruger tomorrow :D

And the winner is . . . .

Ruger.

The red-trigger LCP now has officially replaced my Bodyguard380 in my pocket. The trigger is that much better.
