Ruger LC9s Pro

Hello all. I've had my curiosity peaked by this little 9MM for conceal carry. I recently got my lifetime license to carry and currently carry a Glock 19 Gen2. I'm hoping to get something smaller that is of good quality and could last me a lifetime theoretically and that would serve me well during the warmer months for an easier to conceal EDC.

For those that aren't aware the LC9s Pro differs from the LC9s in that it doesn't have a manual safety and the requisite for having the magazine inserted in order for the trigger to work. Being used to the Glock this is the design I prefer.
I've held the LC9s Pro at my LGS and found the trigger action to be much nicer than I expected it to be given my experience with the LC9 (hammer fire).

Can anyone offer their insight who has fired or carried the LC9s Pro or LC9s in regard to A: how well you like it and B: how it compares to other ultra compact single stack 9MM pistols you've tried or own?

Love my LC9s, very accurate out to ten yards and super reliable. I'm a revolver guy and haven't had a semi auto 9mm since I sold my S&W 39 back in the mid 80's. I don't have any issues with either a semi auto or a 9mm, I just hate digging brass out of the dirt for reloading. I got the bug for a compact 9mm a while ago and just couldn't find one that felt right or had a trigger I liked. I picked up the LC9s and liked the feel and the trigger so much I bought it on the spot and haven't regretted it one bit. I've put over five hundred rounds through it in the last 6 months with not a single misfeed.

I have one and often carry it when a larger size pistol might not be appropriate/concealable and find it is a nice little pistol. This 9S model has a much better, in my opinion, trigger pull due to it being striker fired. I know some like the LC9S pro because it doesn't have the safety or magazine disconnect but that seems more of a personal preference to me. I don't mind having those features on my LC9S. I do find it a bit snappier than the larger 9mm pistols but due to it's size is very versatile for how you want to carry it....holster on the waist or in the pocket. It seems plenty accurate as well the times I have taken it to the range.

I've only recently become aware that the LC9s Pro existed (yesterday). I had previously looked at the LC9 and was immediately turned off by the trigger and the thumb safety. The LC9s Pro seems completely likeable.

I haven't had a chance to check out other stores for the LC9s Pro other than Gander, where the Ruger was 449 I believe, so I believe I can find it elsewhere for much less. I'm hoping I can find it for under $400. Buds had it for $351 but is out of stock currently. I haven't be able to find a dealer online that has them in stock for a reasonable price.

A friend recently purchased the Springfield XDS 9 3.3" at a LGS for $429 and I wonder how that compares. Maybe he will let me shoot it this weekend to get a feel for it. It seems like it's a little bulkier than the LC9s Pro. It does come with more stock accessories (2 mags of different capacity, case, & holster) and I also I like the stock sights of the XDS (red fiber optic front and 2 white dot rear).

None the less I still find myself drawn to the Ruger. It seems like it would be easier to conceal, it feels comfortable in the hand, and the trigger seems nice. Subjectivity mixed with objectivity makes decisions difficult.:D

I'd go for either a S&W Shield or Springfield Armory XDs, or wait and see about the single stack Glock 43 that should be announced in the next couple weeks.

I'm not jumping yet, just exploring. Just expressing my admiration for the newest Ruger subcompact. It seems they pay attention to consumer demand.

I bought my LC9 when they first came out, and for the money one of the best cc firearms I have ever carried. Have not carried an LC9 Pro.

I have a 2014 LC9s and while I've had some minor reliability hiccups with certain types of ammunition (100% reliable with my carry ammo though), it's a great little gun.

Most of all, the ergos are by far the best of any handgun I own or have fired. It's small enough that you can carry it anywhere but big enough that anyone with normal to small hands will have no problem getting a good grip on the gun. But what really make the ergos so special is how well this gun points. It may just be how it fits my hand but for me the gun points dead-on with little adjustment of my grip. This really helps both with target acquisition and point shooting.

It's also very accurate for such a small shooter: great trigger and the recoil, though nothing to sneeze at, is very tolerable for such a small gun. It feels like shooting a full-sized .40 IMO.

So yeah, I like this gun a lot. I plan on buying at least one more of them. And at the very affordable price of about $300, it's not even a purchase I have to really consider too deeply.

I actually went back to a Glock 26 after owning an LC9S Pro for a short stint. To me the size isn't much different when actually carrying it, and the Glock is much more comfortable to shoot. I like having more ammo too. The trigger on the striker-fired LC9's is really good though.

I've had my lc9s for 8 months, never had an issue. I've probably put 400 rounds through it. For the price, it's a great gun. I wish I had know about the pro version because the magazine disconnect is annoying. (I'm used to a beretta)

I see no reason to need a version without the mag disconnect safety. Love the trigger on my LC9s. Not a 1911 trigger but is still great. I carry with the safety on and when drawing I have no problem flicking the safety down as I am shifting from my draw to aiming grip. Very easy but confident click. Have not accidentally flipped it off by accident. Can even easily reach my thumb over the top of the slide and flick it down without changing my grip for the most part. My rear sight had my POA about 2" to the right of POI at 10 yards. Loosened the set screw and nudged it over a bit. Now it shoots where it should from a rest and plenty accurate in my unsupported efforts.

Not a fun gun to shoot at the range. I only shoot a few mags each trip to stay proficient with it. Really gives my palm a wallop. Would be great if these sub compacts could have some sort of rubberized insert in the backstrap. Other than those 2 slight problems, I love it. Carry it whenever I can. Its my only carry at the moment. Only slightly uncomfortable in my 4-430 carry location while seated in the drivers seat. Other times its really unnoticeable.

Have shot 115 FMJ range ammo. 115 JHP, and 124 JHP with zero issues. Have not put any steel or aluminum case through it yet. I shot my stash of that stuff a while ago and have not needed to pick up any since prices have gone back to reasonable. Gun has had 0 malfunctions since taking it out of the box. Only about 250 rounds through it so far.

A friend made the same recommendation to me as I currently carry the 19 and the familiarity transition would be much better. I've not shot either the 26 or the LC9s Pro yet. Hopefully I can find a range that will let me rent both.

I've been conceal carrying the 19 on a OWB Galco with success, I've gotten used to it for every day all day carry and it doesn't often bother me in the vehicle either.

you really gotta appreciate the striker fired lc9's compared to the last incarnation. really made a huge difference for the better. used to HATE the lc9, only because of it's impossibly long and horrible pull, now I think it's a decent option. might even be the best sub-compact trigger out there excluding the hammer -fired sigs or other sa/da sub guns double the price.

My last range session I had maybe six instances of the round not fully chambering with American eagle and HST both 124 gr., out of about 150 rounds.

This lead me to believe a weak recoil spring. Ruger shipped a new one out, installed it and it's way stiffer than my original.

Yes I was shooting 124gr +P Gold dots, maybe 150. Did I wear out the spring in 600 rounds? Who knows, but I didn't have any malfunctions in the first 400. I'll limit the +p ammo for now.

ninjarealist, how is your case ejection on yours? Mine was slinging brass 20+ feet outside, symptoms of a weak RSA.

@greyeyezz

I don't really understand the mechanics of case ejection but for me it's been so random that I have to wonder if my grip is playing a role. I don't pay that close of attention to where my spent cases land but I do notice when hot brass gets lobbed up into my hair or shirt pocket which has happened a couple times with my LC9s.

I had some chambering issues with JHPs as well. Pointy-nosed JHPs like Critical Defense nosedive into the feed ramp. It eats gold dots just fine.

I don't have any need for one, but I did really like the trigger on the LC9s I messed around with. With all of the CYA features dropped from the gun on the Pro, it's definitely an attractive option for a single-stack 9mm.
