I have seen a couple Ruger Blackhawks on GB for sale in 45 LC
But the Ruger web sight didn't show the gun available in 45
Any one know any thing about that?

Don't know how you missed them, they're there. The standard Blackhawk is listed on the Ruger sight, but the flat Top can only be found on Lipsey's web sight.

Well, ah, yeah, anonymous insults notwithstanding, you should get one. I have had one for many years, loaded it from "cowboy" (no real cowboy would pack those) to "yer kidin'" knuckle busters. Wonderful versatile handgun.

Yeah, not much is stainless for .45 Colt. I believe Davidson had a Bisley SS full size they were selling, no sure if that is still out there. Of course there is as mentioned, the New Vaquero in SS.

I have had them sold them and then bought them again. great guns, lots of fun and versatile. The 45 LC was actually referred to as the 45 Long Cartridge and was a Black Powder load. New 45 LC are smokeless with less powder volume. I liked to reload in BP. Lots of smoke and fire!!! I did this with a Stainless version so I could remove the grips and wash it in soapy water to clean it up. I did the same with a Ruger 44 Mag. With BP it shoots like a 44 Spl.

This one was bought new in 1973 and it is not for sale.

Older Ruger Blackhawks' had this semi recessed cylinder. The recesses are just a nuisance and make cleaning the back of the cylinder difficult, I don't know when they disappeared, but they were gone by the early 80's.

Where in the world did you read that?

Do they still make the old balloon head cases? I've read these are necessary to squeeze 40 grains of black powder in.

If so, will they work in lever rifles? Someone on this forum keeps saying they won't and that's why they weren't made back in the day.

I think he's wrong and Paco is right in the linked article, that Colt owned the patent and forbade it (way back in the day when it was still in force).

I found one in .44 Special at the LGS yesterday. Limited edition stainless with the steel grip frame. One box of ammo fired out of it. It was then put away. The owner needed money for Christmas shopping bad so he put it in on consignment with a low ball sell fast price. I spotted them putting into the case.
