Ruger bearcat.

I've always thought the Bearcat was the perfect gun to carry, when you don't really want to carry a gun. :D

BTW. Ruger used to, and probably still does, sell an great holster for them. You can find them on Rugers website.

Might see if Ruger would modify it like they did with the other older single action guns.

If you managed to score an original and it is unconverted... please don't send it off to Ruger to be converted. There is a limited number of them left. If you want one with a transfer bar, sell the unconverted one and buy a new one. Or even an old one that has already been converted.

IMO, these are old enough now to be like vintage cars. I'm sure you could buy a 57 Chevy and improve it by yanking the original engine and replacing it with some modern one... but it is a sin if everything is all original and working just fine.

Be aware that if you send your old model SA (bearcat, Blackhawk, superblackhawk) back to Ruger FOR ANY REASON, they will convert it to the new model style lockwork.

Even if you specifically tell them not to.

They don't have a choice.

This one will never be converted

rep1954-your Bearcat looks exactly like mine but my serial # begins with G followed by three numbers. Would you happen to know the difference?

The first three years of the Bearcat production Ruger produced what is known as the Alfa Cats. They went through the alphabet using a letter and then a series of numbers then went to the next letter and on and on until they used up the letters. Mine is the best shooting Bearcat I've owned old or new and was made in 1960. I bought mine from a elderly lady who's deceased husband bought it in New Orleans brand new along with a Baurer Brothers holster which came with the gun when the purchase was made. It's just one of those guns you like to shoot just so you can clean it.
