Ruger Backorders

I think some dealers may have a hard time selling Ruger single actions. Which may be the reason you won't find them at your dealer. My dealer in 2009 still had a 50th anniversary gun from 2005. He was so happy to sell it, he lowered his price without me even asking to lower it. He said he ordered 4, 2 sold within a few months, 1 took a couple of years, and then I bought the last one 4 years later. He no longer keeps them in stock, but he sells a few semi autos and double action revolvers daily. So, just ask your dealer to order one for you. I ended up getting mine for $480.

Ah, Ruger. My Dad has seen in my safes and commented that I must be their best customer. That's not really true since many of my Rugers were bought second or third hand. But I do have a lot of them. I just wanted to say that up front so people won't think I'm a "Ruger-basher" or something. But... Ruger does have some issues in this area.

I sometimes wonder if they have phones that connect the production areas to the marketing areas of Ruger? They love to introduce and promote "cool new products" at places like the SHOT show. And they WILL have actually produced some before they introduce them. Several thousand usually. But once those sell out.... a deathly silence will fall over the company. What? You mean people want us to make more? What, you mean people want more of those Gunsite rifles that we promoted all over the place? Golly gee, who would have thunk it? They finally get around to making the rumored SR1911. Great price, nice gun, nice reviews... can't find them. In this case, they are making them, they just aren't making enough of them. Production forecast mistake. At least they are ramping up for them. The Gunsite rifle, the .454 Alaskan, the Wiley Clapp GP100 in blue, etc, etc? God knows!

The gun world would be a lot poorer without them around but I sure wish I could actually buy the guns they say are officially in production. The .454 Alaskan has been virtually impossible to find for a year. Prices have gotten crazy on gunbroker with people getting $300 over MSRP. Don't even get me started on the whole .480 fiasco! I was finally able to find a used .480 Alaskan after they were discontinued but I never did find a new one during the entire time when they were "officially" being produced. Bud's hasn't been able to get a Gunsite rifle in several months. I'm on the email list and nothing.

I ordered a GP100 stainless on 3/17; Ruger stopped taking new orders on 3/22. My guy at Gander Mountain called Ruger, and I should get delivery in early June.

BTW, they had LCR's in .38, .357 and .22 in stock, along with a GP100 blued.

According to Ruger's Corporate site, they are doing a press release on May 1st. They will be releasing info and dates to when they will take orders again.
I'm waiting on a SP101....
