Ruger American Bolt Actions

Fritz34 I see you are new here .Welcome to the forum its always helpful to have a real expert on here after reading your posts on the Ruger American I went to the LGS and ordered another one.I do believe you are a true LEGEND OF THE INTERNET

I have the 30-06, .243, .223, .17HMR, .22LR and thinking about the .308. They all shoot good. I also have a Savage Axis .243 and a Savage 10 .243.

The RAR shoots a better 100yrd group than either of the Savage

Not sure if I am allowed to post in here since I THINK I know a little about guns.
The RAR in 6.5 Creed has my interest peaked at the moment. Thinking of picking one up as Deer/Hog rifle. Won't be using it for long range shooting, I have my crappy Savage 12 LRP chambered in the same caliber for that task, but good to know the RAR's are producing good results!

Too bad the american doesnt a have a more ergonomic stock and a hinged floor plate these seem to be very accurate rifles! Maybe ill try a rimfire model and see how i like it long term......it never ends :D

There are some real serious issues you need to consider before buying a rifle like the American.

Chief among them, what will you do if it actually shoots well for you? This can create many problems for you in the long run. You might start neglecting your other rifles that might cost 2, 3 or more times as much--because let's face it--there's a certain hedonistic pleasure to be had when "upsetting the orthodoxy." You will also be faced with psychological trauma as you read further into the collective net wisdom that tells you that you are not really getting a good shooting rifle--you may even begin to believe that you are actually doing something wrong by having it shoot well for you and develop guilt complexes.

Lastly, it's just not worth the potential ostracization you will suffer when shooting at the range and your targets come back in with groups as good or better than those of your friends using much more expensive rigs.

Luckily for shooters everywhere I have developed a series of modifications that can make your weapon shoot worse for you. :)

I wish Stag had posted before I got my American Ranch in .300 BO (with linear comp from Simple Threaded Devices). :D

Silly me, I liked the 5.56 so much I decided I had to try one in the .300.

Here are a few tips on how to get it to decrease accuracy so that it meets the expectations you should have after reading posts advising you of how bad a gun it should be:

1) If you mount a scope; be sure to leave the rings loose enough so that the scope can easily move around.

2) Tighten the trigger spring to maximum pull weight--if that doesn't help your groups open a bit you might try pouring sand into the trigger housing in order to increase the grittyness

3) If all else fails, you can try shooting using your feet and toes

As always, take any advice from the internet with a grain of salt--especially if it comes from me. ;)
