THe gun definitely exists! I wanted some feedback on recoil using .454 ammo, which makes a little more sense to me than the .480 in a 2.5 barrelled super mag. Either chambering should provide all the recoil anyone could ever want. The difference being that the .454 model will also allow you to use magnum level .45 Long Colt and for me personally, it would have more utility. ;)

Seriously Folks!

The first batch of .454 Alaskan SRHs just arrived in Anchorage at Grace Wholesale. NO other dealers or wholesalers have them for sale at this time aside from Anchorage dealers buying from Grace!
The 480 is somwhere down the road.

$615 eh, my dealer says he can't even get them at all yet, they are "allocated."

He's correct. The only way to get them anytime soon is for your dealer to place your order with his distributor/s and have one allocated for you. It's like going to the deli, and taking a number to get waited on. When your allocated number comes up the Alaskan is shipped to your dealer.

I've had a long business relationship with my gun dealer. That may have had something to do with the price he gave me, and I didn't need a deposit. :)

The MSRP on the Alaskan is around $800+ and he should be able to give you a price before you make a decision. I'm pushing 70 so I don't have the luxury of waiting a year or two, that's why I'm going for it now... :D

BTW, Ruger's Super Redhawks have been around for a while, and they don't seem to lose value. A good hunting gun will always sell...

Yeah, I'm still working on building a relationship with my dealer, but at 21 I probably have plenty of time to wait. And sell a gun? Who in their right mind would ever do that? We'll have to see, but I sure don't plan on selling my guns.

I buzzed down a .44 mag SRH....

It is somehow really addictive to shoot. First time out I was a little sore after 100 rounds or so, but I could not stop thining about shooting it...second time out and 150 rounds or so and I ain't sore and now I lay awake at night trying to figure out how I can get a large quantity of .44 mag cheaply.

It really likes the 320 grain bear loads, but the 240's are fine for plinking. The guys I know that had their .454 SRH's buzzed down have similar comments.

If you get your hands on one anytime soon could you let me know what the the trigger action is like. After shooting my new SP101, I'm a little concerned about all Ruger triggers at this point.

Thanks for the help!!! :)

Bullrock-

The action is yer basic Ruger SRH, a little heavy but a smith can smooth and lighten it some.
I doubt many will be doing high speed DA drills with this gun though! :)

Fondled a SRH Alaskan today. Trigger is typical ruger, and the front sight is a narrow black blade that is pinned in place. I think I like my gun better....now where are the darn holsters?

Bullrock your sp101 will get a better trigger with time and about 500 rds. Or order spring kit for it and change springs. The sp101 is the easiest gun to change springs in that I have.
