Ruger 10/22's are a pile of fun...
They can be used as is in their stock form, or they can be modified extensively and sometimes inexpensively as well. If you are looking to modify the rifle, perhaps try some of the offerings from Butler Creek, Volquartesen, or any of the fine manufacturers out there.
As for your scope, I would perhaps borrow one from a buddy and see if it makes a difference.

Wally World?- Are they going to look after your needs like a true gun shop?
I own one- and a Wally World just opened up here in town. They put out fliers that advertise super prices on ammo that are below the average gun shops' cost. People show up at Wally World to get this low buck ammo only to find that it is on backorder... Great Service!
When it comes down to it... If you don't support the local businesses trying to give you the service and products that you want, then don't be dissatisfied when they are not there to serve you when you need it...

Johnny Rad:
I hope you didn't trade your "old" 10/22 in. You will get $50.00-a friend did that once- Put that bad boy in the paper for a C note.

I can give you $75.00 right now if you don't want to go through the hassle(I would offer you 100.00, but I don't have it).

The rifle was as advertised, thanks Johnny Rad. Now, since I can't leave a 10/22 alone, I have already modified the bolt stop to a "quick release"(just pull back and the bolt goes forward), and mounted a red dot. Future upgrades will include a Volquartsen target hammer, a bolt buffer, and a carbon fiber barrel.
