Rossi lever .45

My son is in the market for the Rossi lever in .45 Colt. What if any are the main complaints. Is there anything he should be on the look out for when buying. Thank you.

The action on my 44-40 was a little rough out of the box. It's an older pre safety. I filled the action with white lithium grease and worked it a couple of hours and its pretty slick now. I think the newer ones are already pretty smooth.

I guess he became the owner of a Rossi .45 Colt this morning (marked Taurus with no mention of Rossi). He wants to increase performance above SAAMI specs, and although they market a Casull I didn't know if the heat treating etc. were the same so cautioned against until I got some info from my forum buds. So how about some info?

I had a model 92 in 45 Colt. The stock is a little shorter than I like and I do not like their Buck Horn sights. That said, when I desided to take it deer hunting this year I loaded 5 rounds in it and shot the first into the pond to see about where it hit, the next 4 shot were all on a rock about 12 in. dia. at 135 yards. Sold it to a friend Fir. morn. and Sat. morn he text me a photo of the deer he got with it. All in all not a bad little gun.

I don't have the 45, I have the 357mag, purchased new last year. Zero complaints here. It's as slick as I need it to be, could imagine a slicker action is going to make it performs better outside of competition shooting. The internal LOOK rough, but you can't feel it. Overall it's a beautiful rifle and the only lever that was in my budget. So long as I stay with ammunition that has a slightly rounded or tapered profile and not under min coal, then it feeds 100%. The action is stout even on my 357. I wouldn't see how it wouldn't take stronger loads than even the biggest Ruger out there.

I interpret the OP to mean higher performance/"Ruger-only" specs.

FWIW, I recommend no higher than Brian Pearce's Tier-II pressures
(150% SAAMI) as a steady diet.

On the other hand, PACO of PACO's Leverguns `92 45Colt loads
hit Tier-III (2X SAAMI)

In a strong action (and the Rossi `92 is very strong), an experienced handloader can run the 45 Colt within a wide potential band.
