Rossi 38/357 rifle

COSteve where did you find a globe front sight that would fit the dovetail of a Rossi? I've been looking all over.

You need the metric dovetail version. Brownells sells them under their p/n 539-017-444WB

However, that sight is .465" high vs Brownells 539-017-360WB (same page as above) which has a .404" high sight. I used that lower sight on my 24" Rossi because I use it to shoot 158grn, 357mag loads at our 300yd steel plates and I need the elevation the lower sight affords with coupled with my standard model Marbles Tang sight.

That sight doesn't come in a metric dovetail so I peened the edges of the sight dovetail to create a broader base to fit in the barrel cut. Now if you want the metric dovetail sight but also want to have lots of elevation, you can buy a Marbles Improved Tang sight version with more elevation for the taller metric dovetail sight as it comes in long range versions that are taller.

ETA: For all those considering a Lyman Globe front sight, check your dovetail before ordering. Some people are reporting that new Rossis seem to have standard 3/8" front dovetails.

Further, if you get a Lyman Globe front sight, you'll note that it comes with various inserts with different front sights. A huge increase in quality and fine sight picture is available; Lee Shaver makes a set of inserts for the 17A sight that are far and away better quality with finer, more accurate sights. Lyman should deliver their sights with those inserts but because they don't, Lee Shaver's set is a saving addition.
