Rock River v. Bushmaster for Shorty AR

I just picked up my LE AR15.COM rifle, and I think you'd be pretty hard pressed to find a better deal for $660 in a new gun. This is one very nice looking rifle, I can't wait to take it to the range and shoot it! From all the range reports I've seen, it shoots as good as it looks, so it's sure to be a keeper!

I put together a 16" carbine from Rock River components. I think they are top notch. I also like the medium length handguards that RR sells. They look much more balanced witha 16" barrel than does the shorty handguards.

Walt & Good Guy, thanks for the correction. The brake is what I intended to say and got all caught up in the flash suppressor. ;)

I tell you the AR subject is enchanting.

sks

Thanks Guys

I was out of town for a few days (at a wedding in the PRK). Your opinions/info have been very helpful.

I'm going to go with either the LEGP at AR-15.com or a RRA shorty purchased elsewhere, if I can beat that price (which I'm betting I can't, if you include the LEGP goodies, which I want).

Thanks again,

Mike

Just 1 point that may not have been considered...

Price.

I see lots of folks clamoring for the RRA LEGP rifle due to the $660 price, stating that a comparable Bushmaster is much more expensive.

The RRA LEGP at $660 does include M4 handguards, which run about $40 per pair if you buy them from a vendor. The side sling adapter may/may not be useful to you, and that is a $15 part but let's add it in anyway.

That adds $55 to the price of an A3 Bushmaster, which can usually be had for around $775 or so. Bushmaster total = $830.

But hold on. That RRA LEGP does not include a carry handle. Foregoing the overpriced "tac handle", let's add a simple A3 carry handle at what you can find them for from numerous vendors: $90. Plus, the chrome lined bore/chamber adds another $120 or so. I'll leave out the sling that Bushmaster includes that RRA does not, as it is a minor item. The grand total price for a RRA LEGP that is now truly comparable to a Bushmaster A3 (carry handle and chromed bore/chamber) will cost you $870.

If you like the prestige of a "limited edition" rifle, then the $40 difference may be worth it to you.

Just pointing things out.

However, except for a gun that you're going to shoot a lot and rarely clean, the chrome bore doesn't add much, and if you're going to mount a scope or red dot sight, as I did, the carry handle is useless! Bottom line is the AR15.COM LEGP is a damned good deal, that's why I have one! The fact that it's a Limited Edition is just icing on the cake, it's a good price for the configuration without being a LE. I also like the fake flash hider, it looks 100% real until you're right on top of the rifle, a nice touch. Another small touch is the star safety, I like it much better than the standard one on my other AR's.

Bud-1 here is something a tad bit more in depth about the LEGP than your wrong assessment pricewise. Ain't no way you will ever get bushmaster to make a rifle with the same profile as the LEGP.

My LEGP with tac handle, OKO sight and hood, custom AR15.com soft case and tactical taylor sling ran me a tad over $1,100. I challange you to find a bushmaster M4 profile AR anyplace with these same accessories for less than $1,600

This is a flattop rifle with a fixed telestock, side sling adapter, star safety switch, oversized M4 handguard, contoured 16" 1/9 barrel with a "A2 look alike" birdcage flash supressor, reamed out and press fitted over the end, it's exactly 23mm & leagl. Also includes laser engraved Ltd Edition AR15.COM numbers, Hogue Pistol Grip and a 10-rnd mag.

The military as bought a lot of RRA rifles.

The LEGP price now is $660 delivered, not $680.
The value should go up as soon as I pull the plug on the sale. The only reason the price is this low is because of this group.

BM was the first choice of the group. We approached them first for a quote to the same specs. Their response was they didn't want to upset their distribution channels so the price quoted was $1000.00 each. Adding a little to cover our basic costs made BM an unacceptable choice for the LEGP due to the desire of the group to have a very good price.

My question to you: Is $1030+ for a BM of this configuration a good deal? Still good if you were buying 250+ from them? How many would we have sold to members here at $1030+ What real value would we have given to AR15.COM members by selling them a special BM at $1030+?

I have yet to hear a negative comment from ANY buyer who has received their LEGP.

I understand brand loyality exsists but I am not blinded by it either.

I'm pretty loyal to Bushmaster, but I also think that the RR "special" is a great deal. I personally wouldn't want any specialty engraving regarding an internet website on any of my weapons, but that's a matter of personal opinion. There also is a difference in the longevity of chrome-lined barrels, relative to non-chrome-linedbarrels, with the chrome-lined barrels lasting thousands of rounds longer than their counterparts.

It's my understanding that you guys are offering chrome-lined barrels and A-2 stocks as an option. If I were buying, those would be my choices.
