Rock Island Armory 22 TCM / 9MM

I bought a Para P18 .38 Super magazine for my .22TCM when I couldn't get a .22TCM mag.
I took them both apart and found I needed to shorten the mag spring some and trim the feed lips some to match the .22TCM mag.
It was an easy conversion that works perfectly.
I bought Aluma-grips for the Para P14 for my TCM. They didn't fit without some serious fitting. Grip screw holes were different, new grips didn't fit around the plunger tube and the grip extensions that cover the trigger removal slots required fitting.
I made them fit but I'm not really happy with them.

Thanks for sharing, I've actually been considering been cutting a few corners with everything out of stock right now, but I think I'll go with the factory stuff when I get a chance.

Excellent post!
I have been carrying a RIA officers 1911 for the past 10 years and it has been trouble free. My one complaint being from the Peoples republic of California was my 8 round limit. We now live in Oregon. The north is almost as bad as Cal. The southern part is more conservative. The state is a shall issue state, I digress
I now carry a RIA Mid size TCM and are very pleased with it.18 shot load, minimum recoil ,very accurate. I compared my pistol with your description of your weapon and found both identical. very good trigger action, my thumb safety works easy on and off. Like yours it would lock on the last round. I dremelled the magazine lifter to allow the last round to chamber. It works all the time now. The sight needs attention. the rear is excellent but the front disappears when on the target. I carefully drill spotted the front sight and with a tooth pick filled the spot with white paint now visibility is excellent.
The pistol is loud and is a flame thrower. Which some people complain because the ball of fire could impair you night vision. Perhaps in a night fire fight of many rounds this would be so but on a defensive situation a double tap may not be too bad. Now can you imagine what it would sound and look like to the bad guy in front of you.?
By the way on the 29 of this month the U,S,Army is holding an industry wide conference of pistol manufacturers to present them with new requirement's;

I believe Armscor has a contender here.

does anyone know if an existing .38 super single stack platform be a workable base if one were to obtain a .22tcm slide and bbl? would just the bbl work and maybe some work on the slide or ejector? would a .38 super magazine also work?

It seems to me that any answer to that would be quite speculative, but you might consider trying to contact the Father of the .22 TCM, Fred Craig.

I can't imagine a better place for that question.

hmm... you'd probably be better served to start a new thread than to have resurrected a year and a half old range review.

Not really, when talking about a particular gun that is not widely discussed.

Actually, this was similar to the birth of the .327 Federal Magnum Club thread. Not a heap of folks with a slew of guns, so we kept getting together in one place. Until the .22 TCM takes over the world, it's probably a good bit more productive to keep like minded discussions together.

Especially here in this thread with all the excellent commentary by DennRN, an obvious enthusiast.

Didn't take me long to really like the 22TCM. So fun and spunky. And yeah, you know it's loud when the guy shooting a 44mag revolver at the range asks what in the devil that noisy thing is :D

Did have a few problems with mine though. I had feeding issues with 9mm and also had a 9mm casing rupture. The gunstore owner I purchased it from and I both thought it had way too much unsupported casing area. Hadn't noticed it before firing it  Sent it in to Armscor for warranty and they replaced the entire firearm. I was told the 9mm barrel had a machining flaw, exactly what we thought was wrong after the failure. I should have it back tomorrow according to FedEx tracking :D Hoping to hit the range this weekend with it!

Good luck trying to get just a TCM barrel, although you won't have any trouble the other way around. If you get one and keep the TCM barrel I will gladly subsidize your purchase by picking up the spare slide and 9 barrel =)

The president of the company was on Gun Talk a week or two ago to discuss the 22 TCM. He said that their guns in 22 TCM are all an easy barrel swap to 9mm but that it isn't as simple to drop a 22 TCM barrel into a 9mm 1911. He said that there are differences in the slide on the 22 TCM guns which promote proper function. However, he did say that he was working on some conversion barrels for popular non-1911 9mms so who knows.

BTW, ammo availability came up. He assured listeners that this round is his pet project, that he loves it enough to put his name on it, and that his company is 100% committed to keeping this round alive forever, no matter what.

It should be that simple when they get conversion kits out there that can run the 22TCM 9R cartridge. The 9R is shorter than normal 22TCM and has the same overall length as a 9mm cartridge so it will fit into the 9mm magazines. Cartridge length is the issue until the new ammunition is available.

The breech face if the slide is slightly narrower than a normal 9mm slide, anyone with both a TCM and 9mm can confirm this with a micrometer. This aids with feeding and extraction since the 22TCM casing diameter measures slightly under a 9mm luger casing.

Thumbs up, sevens.

Brand new here and I agree that this thread is an excellent source for those of us that have just recently discovered both this gun..... AND this forum! Excellent job @DennRN!
