Rock Island Armory 1911

Choose your shop well, some boost the price quite a bit due to the
present Seller's Market situation...

Anyway, they're solid 1911's, with some nifty frills as well...
the .22TCM/9mm version is VERY worthwhile...
brings the FUN back into 1911's like you wouldn't believe :D

Minor history blurb...
ARMSCOR started out as Squires-Bingham, an English-led gun firm,
which was established during their colonial days, once PI got its
independance, ARMSCOR (with some gov't seed money) bought out S-B.
At first, all they did was continue the already solid and simple designs
that were S-B's bread & butter...then about a decade ago with new leaders,
started turning out some very interesting designs, which leads us to today.

I have a GI model with a few Wilson Combat bits. Never misses a beat regardless of ammo even SWC, plenty accurate.

I picked up my RIA used at a local gun show for a relatively cheap price. As is, it was a surprisingly well put together gun, but I made a few minor changes anyway since I had a lot parts on hand. I use it mostly with my Kimber .22lr conversion kit these days, but every now and then I'll put the original slide/barrel back on to shoot a little .45acp.

I like mine . . .

I have a "plain Jane" (nothing fancy) Rock Island 45 acp 1911. I've got almost 500 rounds through it. I've got three magazines and I have some trouble with the cobra magazine. It's supposed to be the right mag for my gun (with three and one eighth inches between the grip screws) but it sticks out farther than the other two and sometimes the chamber stays open when it shouldn't. But that is only with the cobra mag. I paid about $370 for my and think I got a good gun for the money. I shoot it mostly for the fun of shooting it, but would feel okay about making it an SD gun. I like the accuracy so far. If you get one I don't think you'll be disappointed.

I have an RIA 1911A1. I put a 24lb spring in it and have shot some loads through it that I wouldn't dare shoot through my lightweight 1911's. It has been flawless. I probably have between 1 and 2k through mine and never an issue.

If I were in the market for another 1911, I surely would have no reservations about the RIA line.

Is it me or are the RIAs getting more expensive? I looked at an RIA in 10mm recently and REALLY liked it but it cost almost as much as the Kimber and Colt Defender. It could be that the one I was looking at was tricked out or something. I really don't know a lot about 1911 style guns other than I love the way the look and feel.

I have a Kimber 10mm, but I could afford that. When I was 10mm shopping 6 months ago, I could buy RIA 10's all day long for 650. That's a far cry from the 1100 I paid for my Kimber. I opted for the Kimber simply for the stainless finish, since it was going to be a deer hunting gun and moisture may be an issue. I had already decided it was going to be a Kimber or RIA in 10mm because of the fully supported chamber, unlike the Colt triangle gun.
