Rock Island Armory 1911

Id like some opinions on rock island armory 1911s. Id like to get a 1911 but cannot afford a high end 1911 like the colt kimber or even springfield for that matter but I also dont want to buy junk. The rock island armory 1911 are in my price range but dont want to make a regret purchase. I already own a revolver, a taurus tracker 357 magnum and after buying it ended up wishing that i would have saved a little longer to buy a smith and wesson. I do shoot a lot so I dont want something thats going to have a thousand rounds through it then start giving me problems. So is the rock island armory really affordable quality or should I bite the bullet and save for something nicer?

I had their double-stack 1911. It wasn't pretty but it functioned flawlessly for the 1500ish rounds I put through it. It's the only thing I've ever owned from Rock Island but it left me with a positive attitude towards their products. I only sold it because I don't love 1911s and wanted a lighter DA/SA gun for carry.

My stepbrother has had one for years with zero problems. I have a double-stack 40 caliber version and am about to send it back for the second time due to malfunctions. My similarly-priced Tisas 1911 I got from Bud's online has never given me problems. YMMV.

Here is what it looks like. I like shooting it a lot, but it keeps have FTF.

Had 4, now 3. I recommend them. My experience is only with the full size .45 Match, two .45 full size G.I. models, one compact .45 G.I. model.

Have 3, 1 full size 45, 1 compact 45 and a 38Super full size, All just the GI standard models. Had a problem with one where the slide back catch didn't always stick when new. That took 2 minutes with a file to fix. Other than that, all have functioned flawless over many, many rounds with different ammo.

I have an Armscor Rock Standard CS in 45(just a basic Officer sized 1911 with Novak style sight cuts).
I only have about 200 rounds through it so far but it's fed WWB, Federal American Eagle and Federal Aluminum with only two FTFs. Both of those FTFs came from the aluminum cased ammo and my sister shooting it( the first 6 rounds she had ever fired from a handgun) Once she adjusted her grip, even those fed fine.

The trigger isn't too bad. The trigger has a little vertical play in it, not too much over travel, about a millimeter but it has an over travel screw. There's almost no slop in the slide to frame fit.

I feel like for what I payed for it, I got a really good gun. It most likely wont stand up to Kimber, Sig, Ruger or Wilson but it's a really good gun for the price and I'm really happy with it.

RIA's are pretty solid 1911's, but I like to mention Auto Ordnance as a made in the USA alternative. They don't cost a whole lot more than a RIA, and since the Kahr buy out they haven't had the QC issues of the past.

Is it me or are the RIAs getting more expensive? I looked at an RIA in 10mm recently and REALLY liked it but it cost almost as much as the Kimber and Colt Defender. It could be that the one I was looking at was tricked out or something. I really don't know a lot about 1911 style guns other than I love the way the look and feel.

Not a bad gun for the price. Mine has been accurate and reliable which is perfect for the price of the gun. You can always dress it up with different grips and can modify it with a different grip safety, trigger, hammer, sights, etc., as you acquire the extra $ to do so.

my dad has the "tactical" model, the one with the skeletonized hammer and trigger, extended beavertail, and ambi safety. no issues out of it whatsoever, and most of the ammo we have shot has been cheap steel case

I have a full size tactical in 9mm. The delivered price was just under $500 and it is very accurate and it has been flawless. I would buy another without a second thought.
