I saw one of these at Cabelas and it was a nice looking gun. Due to the line I wasnt able to get my hands on one. Does anyone know much about them as far as quality and Price. I like the 9MM just because the price of ammo. Thanks

I have the tactical model (now the Rock) full size in 9mm. It is by far my favorite and it has been flawless with great accuracy. I couldn't find one locally and ordered it through Gallery of Guns. My out the door cost was just under $500. The price at Gallery of Guns varies because the dealer sets the price at their store and you are actually buying from them and Davidsons (Gallery of Guns) are the distributor.

My RIA 9MM Tactical is one of my favorite handguns. 1000's of rds fired flawlessly. Super soft recoil , deadly accurate & outstanding customer service. All for under $500!

My father has a Rock Island 1911 in .45 .

He's never had a problem with it in any manner, and LOVES the gun.

My only gripe is that some of the edges looked like they came straight off the milling machine, and were pretty sharp... could have used a little more qc with the finish.

I had one and sold it to a buddy, it is one of the guns that I am sorry I sold. It was a great gun and never had a seconds trouble with it. I will buy another one.

I've had 3, sold the other 2 for various reasons but there was never anything wrong with them. I had one I put at least 1500 rounds through without a hiccup. Now as weird as it is, I've had great luck with 1911's with GI 7 round magazines. I feel like that might be rare though. Anyways I'm a really big fan. I'll probably always have at least one and for the money they can't be beat.

I've not dealt with RIA's customer service... but I haven't had to. I've had two GI models. One from around 15 years ago and one I purchased recently (I honestly didn't like the tactical other than the sights... plus getting a 1911 for a little under $400.00 is a big benefit).

My old one was flawless for I don't know how many rounds... at least 2k or 3k. I didn't want to sell it but I did because of hard times and I needed to keep my carry gun (which I actually liked less, but I would carry it). The trigger was amazing in it. The only thing that was off (looking back) is that the finish was a little crude on it. My new one? The finish looks much better on it, but I don't think the trigger is as nice. Not bad, but not as nice as the trigger in my old one. I only have a few hundred rounds through it, but it has been functionally flawless. Many 1911's start to have issues with HP ammo... neither of my RIA's have had any issues with any ammo including Winchester Ranger HP ammo.

So... in summary you should get one but not from Cabela's. There are better prices.

I love my RIA Tactical with the Duracoat finish. I've made some fancy grips for mine and a western style holster. The Duracoat finish has been quite durable to holster wear. I've been shooting it more often than any of my guns right now. Hundreds of rounds and not one problem. It has become my semi-concealed carry gun, as well as my nightstand pistol.

There are little dot holes in the rear site for inserts. I simply dropped (filled) white nail polish in the holes.

Highly Recommend. :D I got mine at an auction for $400.

If you want to get cute, go to your local hobby or craft shop and get a small bottle of acrylic luminescent paint. The greenish yellow is highly visible during the day, and you have cheap night sights in darkness.:D

My most recent purchase was a Rock Island GI .45. As basic a 1911 as you can hope to find.

I haven't had it too long (about 4 months), but it's been just fine so far, with the exception that I'll need to do some troubleshooting with an aftermarket magazine.

I just picked up a RIA 1911 Rock Ultra FS, in 9mm. It is a nice gun, but I haven't been to the range with it yet. I ordered a couple of magazines from Advanced Tactical; which should be here in a couple of days. Then I'll get to the range.

I have held off on them simply because of the bill board that was slathered on the side of the slide. But now it seems they just have a small logo towards the rear of the slide. So a GI model is on the list.

Oyher than the import marking " made in phillippines" they are neat pistols, the only problem i have encountered is the magazine which i dumped and use Betterquality

I have a full size RIA tactical with Wilson Combat Grips in .45. I have another duo-tone RIA tactical in .45 caliber and a RIA tactical Commander in .45 caliber. I bought all of them at the local pawn shop used, all in LNIB condition and the highest I paid was $385 for the duo-tone. I have found them to be very reliable and accurate. The only thing I replaced was the guide rod on the commander which the previous owner had installed and which I hated and thought not needed.

They currently have a used but good condition RIA .38 Super in the case that intrigues me but .38 Super ammo is hard to come by in my area. I am waiting on a RIA 9mm to show up. When I want to shoot 1911's I usually get the RIA commander and my Norinco 1911 out of the safe, while my Colt and Springfield stays in the safe. I wouldn't hesitate to buy a RIA.

The magazine that came in my Rock Ultra, was a Mec-Gar magazine.
