Rock Chucker Supreme Master Reloading Kit

That is a very good deal. I have my dad's RockChucker. It has loaded untold thousands of rounds. I still use it for small ammo runs or to work up a load. Most of the time it is pulling duty for rifle case prep.

I paid about that much for a used identical kit nearly 40 years ago and it's still working like new. You need to jump on that deal.

Thanks to everyone for all the replies again. You guys have been very helpful indeed. I will definitely be asking more questions. But have to start reading and learn a lot of the terms that were used here as don't have an idea what it means. Soon to change.

One thing is for sure, I can't thank enough to the one guy at Cabela's whom I interrupted his shopping, asked him about reloading. He answered what he knew and then sent me to this forum.

That is a GREAT price and you will need to add very little to be reloading...all quality components. Don't hesitate because deals on Rockchuckers are far and few between.

Are your 223 & 06 bolt actions? Also are you reloading for target shooting, hunting or both. It's a good time of life for you now, just about finished changing s_ _ty diapers . I have two children & they have 4 each. It only gets better from now on. Enjoy, time goes by so fast. Start reloading.

My 223 is my ar and the 06 is bolt action. For now I am looking for target (223 and 06) but once I get to a descent level, would like to load for hunting (06). This year will be my second season hunting and my first with a rifle.

Awesome

Reloading manuals are awesome. If you can read and follow instructions carefully you will be rolling your own in nothing flat.

I've been off the press for a while, but will get back to it. Great hobby that way, you can leave and come back years later, and little if anything has changed.

I mostly shoot shotgun, 9mm, and .22. I still load a fair amount of shotgun, 9mm is a PITA to load, and cheap. That's two good reasons for store bought ammo.

Shotgun is hard to save much money on, unless you have a connection for components at real wholesale. Kinda boring too, more a cookbook approach.

Rifle and big bore pistol is where you save serious money reloading.

I would suggest getting a full length sizing dies for both. Follow the listed info in the load books, know your twists in your guns , will help in picking the right bullet & powder. Make sure your brass is clean before sizing , will keep your dies trouble free. What model & brand are your rifles.?

Excellent way to get started! In short order you will find that there are as many opinions, practices and ways of doing things as there are members of this group. None right or wrong, just different.

What you'll need to do is find your own way and what works for your. What your needs are. What you are comfortable with. Biggest advice I can add right now is to build a procedure that is repeatable. One that becomes second nature. Then when something gets out of sync you will quickly know it and it prevents mistakes.

Even before you get your equipment you can go into your basement where you plan to set this up and figure where you will want your bench. Where you can have a quiet area and enough space for your needs.

I would also at this point suggest going to some of the other gun forums and reading thru their loading sections. Almost all forums do. Then look in the stickies as many also have a thread about benches with lots of pictures. You'll get some great ideas and see what works for other people.

Lastly, what works for me may not work for you as we are all individuals who's needs may not be the same. Good luck and enjoy the new hobby.

Forgot to mention that I have a Speer Manual For Reloading Ammunition Number 8 I picked up at a flea market about a month ago.

I would get a new Hornady 10. Lot of new bullets and powders out.

Your Savage 111 30-06 has a 1 in 10 twist , you can shoot a wide range of bullets. What grain & bullet are you starting with ? Savage is turning out very accurate rifles. I would stick with listed OAL ( Over All Length ) base to tip of the bullet for now . Zero at 100 yards .

I'm a bench rest shooter so for target shooting 150 , 168 grain . Hunting 180 gr. Powders Reloader 15 or IMR 4064 can be used for both your guns. Start at the low end of the listing & stay with the OAL . First time reloading make a dummy round empty case no primer seat your bullet & chamber it in your rifle as a test. Savage has very little free bore that's where the rifling starts, sometimes depending on the bullet it will hit the rifling , making chambering hard. Read up on seating to the ogive & the tools needed. Comparator & dial calipers is a must. I also use the RCBS Precision Mic . Uniformer to cut your primer pockets all to the proper depth only has to be used once on each case. Makes seating primers trouble free. Do you have a case trimmer? This you will need . If your only shooting average 50 rounds, check out the Harbor Freight tumbler with stainless steel pins, it will clean your brass like new every time. I switched from dry to wet tumbling after 30+ years. Gave my dry tumbler & media to a shooting friend. Reloading is never ending, always something new to try.
