Robinson AK-47

Experience indicated that there is one problem with these guns, namely the scope mount. At 50 yards I have to use a secondary aim point that is 6 inches to the right and 3 inches low in order to hit the center of the target. Robinson is aware of this problem and is having an entirely different mount made. Should be available sometime this summer.

This is, in my opinion, a very minor problem. The gun and scope are excellent.

I bought mine from ROBARMS direct and had it shipped to my friend(FFL). You can go through retailers but you'll pay a little more obviously.

Is the rail mount similiar to what is on the Romanian SAR series? A Kobra sight would compliment that gun very nicely. I have one on my SAR1 and it makes a great replacement for the AK's normal sights.

I am left handed. Are there any issues with this type of rifle that I should know about in advance? If it is only no scope mount that would be ok.

Hi Lonnie;
I'm left-handed too, and was shooting a Robinson Arms' VEPR II in 7.62X39 yesterday with no problems at all. The stock scope mount (quick-detach type) on the left side of the receiver, while of typically-poor Russian quality, is nonetheless serviceable, and doesn't get in the way. The RPK receivers are very well finished, and the nylon "furniture" is top-notch. The rifle was quite reliable, no misfires at all, certainly acceptably accurate (firing freehand at 25 yards at an indoor range, anyway), and had less felt recoil than other AK variants.

I was at Robinson Arms' offices in North Salt Lake this past Friday, and was impressed by the quality of their products and operation. I'm trying to decide about getting one of their M96 modular rifles in 5.56X45 vs. a VEPR II in 7.62X39.
Best.

If your located in Utah - Check out the Utah Gatherings in Lock and Load. Lots of fun.

As good as the VEPRs are the M96 is better...

I just ordered a VEPR II in 7.62x39 today. Should be in in about a week, hopefully by Friday so I can let loose at my gun range on Saturday. I have never fired or handled one, so I am only going by the recommendations of others. I hope I have not made a mistake.

dangus
these are miled receivers, and not a stamped one. altough most people equate a milled ak variant with the long cut on the sides of the receiver, this one does not. and as on owner of a vepr in .308 i can confirm that the receivers are definitly a nice peice of machinery. i own a standard one and can attest to how well it is. now if i can only get a mag conversion to accept either fn or m-1a mags i will be a real happy camper

I beg to differ. I spoke to a salesman at Robinson today and he stated that the VEPR II's were in fact stamped receivers, albeit very good ones.

I'm just relaying what I was told on the phone. To tell you the truth, I couldn't tell the difference between a milled from stamped receiver if my gun collection depended on it. I don't know what to look for.

huh??? There are indents on the side that do not look machined at all. Look on his pics, just above and forward of the mag. That REALLY looks like the effect of stamping.... But looking at those newer pics it would seem that it's just an unusual finishing effect where those bumps are(what are the purpose of those bumps? Casting spots?).

They're stamped. Says so in Robinson's literature. The guys who run the place (I was there today, again) say so. But that doesn't impugn their quality of finish, or their strength.
