Robbed!

Thanks for the link, CodeSection, it looks like what I've been looking for. I wonder if Amazon carries it, they seem to have a death grip on my wallet anyway! LOL

Glad you were not hurt in the incident. FWIW, what happened to you is the (FBI Crime Stat) definition of a home invasion, even though you didn't get roughed up.

It worked out for you this time, less a few tools. Heck, gives you a reason to buy more tools! :)

You may want to consider carrying at home. When I started doing that, my wife thought I lost my mind. That is until we started having unsavory types going door to door ringing door bells and a couple of homes broken into in the development.

Pnac, I'm glad you opted to file a report. If nothing else it helps us have accurate statistics. When De Blasio says crime is at an all time low, what he means is apathy is at an all time high. Politicians use statistics as facts. I think the "low crime rates" in America right now speak more to a lack of faith in LEO than a lack of crime.

Glad things worked out. My house was broken into several years ago while my daughters were sleeping late (summer). The guy didn't know they were in there and they called 911 and the police caught the scumbag. It was a good neighborhood. The guy just thought it would be a good house to rob because it had a privacy fence, shrubbery blocking views, etc.

We've moved since then. Now, the backyard is open (we live on a corner). Street lights nearby in front and back and three sets of security lights. We also have a monitored alarm system. There's no guarantees but you have to take precautions in this day and age. I grew up in a rural area and we never even locked the doors at night. Times have really changed.

You would be wise to go to Amazon and read the reviews on that camera before you purchase.

A simple inexpensive motion alarm to warn when anyone approaches, and especially if anyone actually comes in, might suffice.

Thanks for the support and the info on cameras and motion alarms, guys. As my late Dad used to say "Much obliged".

I was surprised to read Amazon reviews. I simply do not have some of the users problems. I own 6 of these cameras and they perform flawlessly. I have a couple of more expensive camaras (Avtech) and the Samsung cameras do just as well.

I'm not sure if the problems people have are really based on the user, their internet service or their lack of knowledge or the product. These cameras are straight forward in my opinion. Again, I have experience with other cameras so that may be why I do not have any problems with them.

I paid $149.97 for a bundle of two at Costco. The nice thing about Costco is their generous refund policy if you are not satisfied with their performance. The cameras were sold in their warehouses, not online. The sku number is 781001.

Good luck!

A poor operator blames his tools.
It's amazing how clumsy and ham fisted some folks can be with their equipment.
And it seems they are the first to write scathingly bad reviews.

Crazy story. Even crazier attire. Glad you're here to talk about it. I too live in a rural area, and have been burglarized. Made off with 3 firearms and some firearms accessories. (Got them back sept of 2014 thankfully. Took over 2 years) I've also been fortunate enough to have my truck stolen from the mechanics shop last summer too. Oh and if that's not enough a month or two later my brothers and I bought a storage unit and put a bunch of our music equipment and tools in it because one of them was in the middle of a move. Next night lock was cut off and everything stolen. It will make a man very bitter and merciless when it comes to a thief. When some one takes something that you have worked very hard for. I have young kids in the house, so I don't generally keep a loaded gun laying around. Although I'm looking to change that by wearing one while I'm home. I'm home all alone right now. Loaded revolver sitting right next to me on the couch. Glad you're safe. Keep that 1911 in reach.

Wow matt! I can't compare my material loss to your's, but I certainly share your views regarding thieves. It's a very unsettling experience and makes you bitter. Consider it lessons learned at the infamous "School of Hard Knocks" I guess. Thanks for your support and better luck to you as well. Stay vigilant.

Codesection, I was about to pull the trigger on the Samsung Smartcam in spite of the negative reviews then I found this: "This item did not work with my Airport unit. I spoke with tech support and they stated that because of a "security device" in the unit, it doesn't recognize the connection. I had to use an old D-link router to establish a connection - no issues now."

The Apple Airport is the most reliable router I've ever found, so the search for a security camera continues. Thanks anyway!

I am glad you are alright and that the situation didn't go South on you. I am also happy to read that you did report the incident after all. Very good reasons were given.
I hope everyone who has read this takes it as a reminder not to get complacent.
I also hope the incident scared that dirtbag enough that he will think twice before doing something like that again. (I seriously doubt it but one can hope)
