roa capper

Well I have been at this bp revolver stuff for several weeks, and am enjoying getting the ruger up and running, #11 caps have been all that are available here, they produce some jams with the oem nipples, switched to uncle mikes and no more grief from wayward caps. I picked up both a ted cash and a traditions inline capper. The tc had problems with the caps flipping over and a lip hanging up the cap on the exit end. A few taps with a small ball peen hammer fixed the flipping problem and a dremeled radius on the lip took care of that problem. I had to grind in a clearance in the capper to get the traditions to fit the ruger cylinder.
Both cappers experience problems with the cap hanging in the capper instead of the nipples on occasion. I read where one fellow had drilled a hole in a wire cutter to resize the caps. Just happened to have an old pair of wire cutters. I also made a clearance hole in the cappers so I can push the cap on the nipple if the cap hangs in the capper, weather permitting I will give it go an monday.

NOZ, don't give up friend, just because someone doesn't take advice don't make it a bad thing. You advice is out there and someone else may find it useful. I'm keeping it in mind for my Remy, I just haven't taken it out for a shoot since reading your fix.

Keep the good stuff coming!

That might be function of use. Try this technique & see if it cures the problem.

Press the cap firmly on to the cone by pressing down on the back spine of the capper as close to the nipple as possible.

Now don't pull the capper up away from the cone & cap, but slide it off sideways so the cap exits through the spring loaded finger at the end of the capper.

The Ruger Old Army has plenty of room for a capper (at least mine does), no modification of the pistol is necessary.

my big issue with the cappers i have was a cap sticking in the capper and not the nipple.well i am just back from the range and the resized caps feed 100% with either capper and zero caps jamming up the works. so now i have one capper for cci and one for rem's. i see that the snail capper will work with the roa without mods, so i will have to order one of them to try.

What don't I see ???

Excuse me if I am not fully understanding your technique but if you "press and swipe" your capper has to release the cap. .....

Be Safe !!!

An alternate technique with the capper; press the cap onto the nipple (do not lift up) and rock the capper forward. Not back and forth just rock it forward to release the cap while maintaining pressure keeping the cap on the nipple.

I've gotten pretty quick capping in the manner myself.

Once again personal choice not a slam on others' techniques.
