Rifles for turkey hunting?

Art,

That is what we do. The other hunters were truly amazed that it could be done. I shoot mine with the .30-06 as well. However, even though they saw it could be done they still carried their arsenals to the blind.

killed one with a 300 win mag. Shot it right where the neck met the body @ about 50 yds. while deer hunting. I have shot them in the head with my 22-250. But, If I were to use a rifle for turkey hunting, I'd have to go with 22 win mag, or a 17 cal. The 17's are really made for accuracy. A 22 won't mess up meat like the centerfires will if you hit a body shot. A turkey shot in the body with most centerfire rifles will pretty much all but destroy it. An extra full brenneke turkey choke is really the best option in a 12 ga. though. I like #5 shot.

Uncle Buck your friend is definitely a great shot. Unfortunately (cause I would sure like to do it) it isn't legal to hunt turkeys with a rifle in MO.

I did not know it was illegal to hunt turkeys with a rifle in Missouri. (I do not turkey hunt, I walk to the pen and grab one.)

Has it ever been legal?

it's illegal now in Alabama, but my granddad used to use a .243 when it was legal. Not sure where he aimed at though.
