Rifle - Handgun combinations,,,

Hello Hal,,,

I hear ya my friend.

You know, you really need and H&R revolver instead of the Colt.
They (H&R revolvers) aren't as bad as their "JC Higgens" reputaion...

I would love to have an H&R Sportsman,,,
But I haven't found a decent specimen for a decent price,,,
All of the ones I've seen lately are loose & shaky or very over-priced

I had a line on a 4" version about 3-4 years ago,,,
It was in extremely nice shape for it's age,,,
But I couldn't shell out 450.00 for it.

I keep my eyes open all the time,,,
Eventually I'll find a nice one I can afford.

Hello LarryNTX,,,

You must have some TOUGH jack rabbits down there in TX,,,
And I thought I was bad using a .38 special on my Okie bunnies. ;)

When I was a young lad,,,
I would have traded my big sister to the gypsies for that Marlin/Ruger pair.

But then, on any hot Oklahoma summer day,,,
I would have swapped her for a cold RC Cola and a Moon Pie. :D

Hey vostracker,,,

What are you going to match those two new ruger's to!!!

Probably nothing,,,
They are a nice match all by themselves. :)

I had 11 days off for the Christmas holiday break,,,
I didn't make it to the range even once. :(

But I am going to go out this Saturday morning,,,
One of the kids at my watering hole got a pistol from his grandfather.

I haven't seen it yet but it's supposedly a Savage semi-auto,,,
It's a .22 Magnum with a Nikon scope mounted on it.

I'll let ya all know how the new ladies perform next week.

I have long wanted a stainless steel Puma 92 in .357 to go with my S&W 65s, but just cannot justify the cost.

[I DO but NOT the way you do. I see no reason to carry a 22 rifle and a 22 pistol also. They BOTH do the same thing and there is no reason to that.

I also subscribe to this theory, I don't need 2 guns of the same caliber, I need 2 guns of contrasting calibers to be most effectively armed.

Hello tekarra & Bailey Boat,,,

...but just cannot justify the cost.

Shucks my friend,,,
Just having "the wants" is enough justification,,,
But then again I'm a single man so it's easier in my situation.

That would make a snazzy set though.

Hello Bailey Boat:

I understand your point of view,,,
What contrasting pair do you own or want to own?

I'm not saying using the same cartridge is the only way to go,,,
I'm only saying it the way I like to go.

Hello Bailey Boat:

Fairly simple plan, if I'm armed with a centerfire rifle (700 or such) or a shotgun I'll carry a lesser handgun, usually a rimfire (Smith 34's or an 18) If I'm armed with a rimfire rifle I'll carry a centerfire handgun (Smith 19 or a 696)
Like you, I'm not saying it's the end all/do all but it gives me some flexibility as to what game gets shot with what gun......

The little 5-shot 11-oz. 4" barreled stainless .22 Mag is a backpacking tool and a nice accessory to a 9+1 Ruger .22 Mag All-Weather bolt (think survival) or the custom 18-1/2" 10+1 Rossi takedown .22 Mag. pump (think all-purpose truck) gun...
