Ridding your deer of fleas before skinning.

Lice and fleas are the same thing.

??????

I saw on TV (that makes it true, right :p) an interesting thing about lice. They are specialized, so pubic lice can't actually live on your head. The "hair holders" are specifically design for a certain type of hair. If they end up on the wrong hair, they get washed off in the shower. If they are on the right type of hair, they can hold on through a hurricane.

I keep the ground around my feeders sprinkled with DE. You can watch deer roll in it after they figure it out. It has nothing in it that will hurt them, and doesn't seem to keep them away.

I have also noticed a difference in the health of the deer that frequent my feeders. They seem to be much healthier from year to year. The does in particular seem to throw better looking fawns, as they are not being eat up by parasites.

This method also keeps the critters down to a minimum in my hunting area as well.

As far as critters after I shoot one, they go in the pick-up to the processor and the next time I see my deer, it is in little white paper packages. All the critters have to stay at the processors.:)

DE is pretty good stuff. It actually destroys the waxy outer layer of the insects and causes them to dehydrate. The two drawbacks are that you don't want to inhale much (use a filter mask and you'll be fine) when applying, and you can kill off the beneficial insects if used around the house.

It could take up to a day to work, so it's not going to be as quick as some chemical pesticide, but it generally won't harm mammals so it should be safe for you and your pets, even if you ingest it (other than breathing).

It isn't that bad!

Good grief. It's a liability for them to not post that.
LOL... Glass is a carcinogen.
It is bad to breathe. It isn't permanent like asbestos is. It is dirt and your body can remove it.
Just be sure and not have a fan running while you put it down.
Pour it, don't throw it, etc.

It's a common sense thing.

When using it on harvested animals, throw it on, and be upwind.
For pets, just drop it along the back and 'pat' in. The pet will take care of the rest.
It is food grade. aka edible.

Yeah, you better tell all those toothpaste manufacturers it will cause cancer. Also those folks that put in the the grain silos, where we get our bread. Or those that dust their crops with it that we eat......:D

Its not glass, its silica fragments. The MSDS didn't mention harm from eating it but other contact is a no-no. Probably all those farmers who put it in the grain silos just assume that they've either breathed too much 'grain dust' or smoked too many cigarettes when they get emphysema.

Back on topic, have you ever been bitten by a flea from a deer? I know I haven't ever seen a flea on a deer. I wonder if DE could keep the elephants out of the refrigerator too?:p

Actually from what I can find out, the Fresh water DE is food grade, and the dust is not any worse for humans than, road dust or grain dust, although it isn't recommended to inhale any of the three of them. People will take a teaspoon full of food grade DE every day for high blood pressure, cholesterol reduction, joint pain, re-grow hair, harden fingernails, and facial blemishes, and removal of liver spots on the skin. It is also used to de-worm your pets, and livestock, as well as shine your wife's silverware, and tooth polish.
You can use it to kill bed bugs in your bed or sprinkle it inside your home for ant and cockroach control.

It's the Salt water DE that is poison to humans and animals.
