I recall reading a review of Ruger's first .357/9mm Blackhawk (a very long time ago). The gun scribe, whose name I've forgotten, pointed out that if you are in a part of the world where you can find neither 9mm nor .38 Special ammo on the shelf, you have redefined the term "boonies." That still makes sense to me.
Personally, I shoot a S&W Mod. 52 a lot, and anyone who won't give up an autoloader that shoots .38 Specials is apt to be broadminded about odd pistol/cartridge combinations.
