I voted "both equally".
My EDC is a flat 3-inch .45acp w/spare mag. to talk to two-legged predators, but if I'm going some place where there's a possibility there might be an encounter with the four-legged kind, I'll carry the 2.25-inch .357magnum revolver.

Clearly, the correct answer is autorevolver. Large as a Desert Eagle and almost as picky about ammunition, with the high capacity of a revolver and the internal complexity of an automatic. Obviously, the best of all worlds....
You're absolutely correct. The Webley-Fosbury automatic revolver is obviously the perfect handgun. And not only is it big, heavy, bulky and complicated, it chambers a grossly anemic cartridge (the .455 Webley with the blistering muzzle velocity of 620 fps). Of course it was available in a high capacity version chambering 8 rounds of well under powered .38 ACP.

It was used to its greatest effect against a fictional character -- Miles Archer.

(To be fair is was known for excellent accuracy.)

I like both differently.

For social work, in a descending order of preference:
  1. 1970 SIG P210-6 Heavy Frame
  2. 1939 Radom Vis wz. 35
  3. 1939 Colt Government Model National Match
For the same purpose, with a little extra oomph:
  1. 1980 6" Manurhin MR73 Sport Convertible
  2. 1957 6" Colt Python hollow lug
  3. 1940 5" S&W .357 Magnum
The P210 is the most rugged, reliable, and accurate gun of the lot. The MR73 gets the nod for ease of carry.

+1 for revolver

Gotta go revolver.

Don't care about mag capacity or speed of loading. Standing in the stall at the range I like the feel of the revolver and I think they're just nicer looking.

I am biased because I have only fired semi-automatic handguns and only own semi-automatic handguns. I like the looks of revolvers but have never had the pleasure of firing one. The higher capacity of semi's is a plus for me though.

This question is really a matter of preference. Either gun is usually going to work fine if its a quality firearm, well maintained, with good ammo. If I were a cop or a military guy likely to get in a gunfight with multiple folks, I'd carry a semi-auto. Since I'm not, I prefer a revolver. I think they look nice. A stainless steel model is damn near incapable of being destroyed without some real effort. If I needed to reach for something with an intruder or whatnot, I'd feel just fine with 5 shots of .357 mag hollow point. 5 rounds is enough to double-tap two creeps and still have an extra if either of them wants some more. I wouldn't use a revolver if I wasn't pretty confident I could hit what I wanted to, because of the decreased capacity. Never have I pulled the trigger on a revolver and had it fail to fire perfectly. I would feel fine with a quality semi-auto like a Glock, but I'm the obsessive type who would worry about the possibility, however small, that it MIGHT jam up.
