revolver for home defense... help!

I am partial to Smiths, hence my recommendations. I was issued a Model 10 .38 while serving in the Navy. Good pistol. I use a Model 19 for home defense. That is a very good pistol. The Airweight .38's Models 637, 638, 642 are great little shooters and the little buggers can take care of business. My humble .02.

i think you should take her to the range and let her try out a few different guns and let her decide which one is the easiest for her to handle.

THANKS EVERYONE!! alot of helpful info. it will definatly be for HD so the heavier the better to help with recoil. a buddy of mine has an sp101 so maybe we will take her out to see if she likes the feel of it. thanks again guys im new to this forum and im glad i joined yall have a lot of good knowledge.:)

Best advice is to take her to a gun range where you can rent a selection of different .38 and .357 revolvers. Let her try each one of a type...
- J-Frame 5-shot steel
- J-Frame 5-shot alloy (lightweight)
- K-Frame .38 2-inch (Model 10, 64)
- K-Frame .38 4-inch (Model 10, 64)
- L-Frame .357 4-inch (586/686)
- N-Frame .357 4-inch (627)

Besides being able to shoot it, the gun should fit her hand well enough that she's not stretching to reach the trigger or hammer. It should not feel so heavy to her that she can't hold it outstretched for six slow shots. The recoil should be tolerable for her.

The older .38 Special revolvers can be found at bargain prices sometimes.

S&W Model 67 (circa 1979) .38 Special

The above is one of our HD guns and it's accurate enough to put all six rounds into a 1.5" circle at 25 yards.

I saw an ad this week for S&W model 64's for $350. I think it was at CDNN or maybe SOG. I was really tempted to get one, but I just bought a carbine last week and I need to pace myself. ;)
