It's like TV not showing real license plate numbers or the serial numbers on cash or on credit cards -- or actual telephone numbers. The potential for misuse may not be huge, but it's there ... If I was posting pictures of a gun I had for sale, the serial number would be obscured or the pics would be shot from an angle where they wouldn't show. Always better safe than sorry, especially where guns are concerned.
