Reuters - Miami toddler killed by gunshot in home

Elsewhere on this board is a thread on how S&W will have to make their firearm's triggers harder to pull. The threadparent noted that the children will simply turn the firearm around and use their stronger thumbs to pull the trigger when they are unable to use their weaker forefingers.

Note that this girl shot herself in the chest and you can bet the ranch that she was using her thumbs to pull on the trigger rather than her weaker forefingers.

Gun Control: The proposition that a woman found dead in an alley, raped and strangled with her own panty hose, is more acceptable than allowing that same woman to defend herself with a firearm.

A little while back, 5 kids under 21 were killed here in the Dallas Metroplex area when the truck they were driving overturned. Y'all probably didn't know that, it didn't make the national news, no firearms were involved. It does point out, however, the media bias on reporting. We need a multi-step program NOW, to stop these senseless deaths:
1. A three day waiting period, before buying a pickup truck.
2. No truck sales to children under 21.
3. Steering wheel locks, to prevent children from driving pickup trucks.
4. Pickup trucks must be stored under lock and key, with no fuel in the gas tanks.
5. Pickup trucks must have a manual transmission(No automatics!)

Let's get busy on this now, before it's too late!

There already is a law. It is a felony in Florida to leave a loaded firearm within access of a minor. The law is rarely enforced as most feel that negligently contributing to the death of your own child is far more punishment than anything the court would impose. But if you hear someone spouting off about how something like that should be illegal; it was. The law didn't stop an adult from leaving a loaded weapon where a toddler could get it. Laws don't stop abuses, they just punish the abusers.
