Rethink Ist 1911,now Ruger vs Remington R1

might want to also consider the Colt Government Model. Buds guns are listing them for $699, which is close to Remington and Ruger. Bought 2 Colts in the last year and both of them have been good, reliable, and accurate pistols.

I would look for a Kimber from the late 90's.
Actually new guns are better than ever, right out of the box.
A good number of 1911 enthusiasts think the early base model Kimbers are better than current base model Kimbers. You'll see reference to "Clackamas Kimbers" which were roll-marked as being made in Clackamas, Oregon, though they may have only been quality checked in Oregon after being made in Yonkers, NY (where they are made now).

I personally don't know which is a better gun. I've owned one Kimber, got rid of it, and bought many 1911s since then without getting another Kimber.

I loved the Ruger light weight Commander .That came out earlier this year . For a few seconds I considered trading a Colt for one. Then came to my senses

I would go with the Ruger I just have more faith in them than anything that comes to day with the Remington name on it today.
