...Restart the cautionary thread on J& G Sales!!!

...I was unsure about sharing negative experiences, but I would have to say FROM MY EXPERIENCE with J& G Sales, they are dishonest and the worst people I have run across for mail order. I had the same problem of ordering standard gun packages, where they pulled out the clips. Wow, I had NEVER seen a reputeable FFL/ Dealer pull parts out before. ...I am surprised they didn't think to yank the firing pins, and make me pay for that separately as well! ...I think fellow netizens should be adviced to steer clear of J&G sales, or know the risks of dealing with them.

Cheers, Cowboy

p.s. Give 'em hell Cryoman :)

Back in the days when they were doing business as J&G Rifle Ranch (this was the late 1970s) my experience with them convinced me that these guys were a pack of thieves. Sounds like they haven't improved with time.

Lets add a few more to the list-

Botach Tactical (Overall, they are terrible)-just ask the guys on Bowers board.

R Guns (Nastiest people in the gun business, act like they are doing you a favor).

The Good Guys-

Bachman Pawn & Gun
Jersey City Armory
Inland Armory
CDNN Investments
CFI (good, but pricey)
Dr. David Avery

Hmmm, R Guns treated me very well. I've bought quite a few SIG mags from them.

CDNN, ordered "like new" Sten mags from them, what I got had large cancerous rust patches on them. They did replace them but never refunded the shipping to return them.

Just my experiances from the list of good & bad posted.

Thats very unusual with CDNN, they should have refunded your shipping cost- but at least you got what you payed for.

As far as R Guns is concerned, congrats in your fine dealings with them.

Was placing a order from J&G sales. After over 5min on hold they were ready for my order. The price had gone up on the first 3 items "from $20 to $30 each" the other mags they said never worked so they were getting lots of complaints on. "listed like a factory mag with brand name and trademark" Well I told them to delete my card # as I didn't need anything anymore. I found some of the items at a local gun shop for less $$$ lost in the back. :) Was not impressed.
Also I just got Feb 7th shotgun news and the items that went up $$$ are still listed at lower price.

R Guns are the biggest bunch of crooks in the business. They have changed ownership since the old owner and manager got busted by the ATF. I have been personally burned by them. They were selling unmarked law enforcement post-ban AR-15's as pre-ban ones. Years later when confronted with this, they denied it, said it was the dealers fault and not theirs. When confronted with invoices that showed that they said they were pre-ban and ads in the Shotgun News and Gunlist showing they advertised them as such, they still balked. The short barreled Colt uppers they advertise and sell aren't factory Colt shorties, but ones they cut down themselves.

Buyer beware.

I've bought from J&G before and had no problems. I ordered ammo so I don't know about how they deal with firearms. Never got the impression from talking to them that they did not want my business. Must be my charming personality.

Greetings, Sorry to hear the bad rap on J&G
Sales; formerly J&G Rifle Ranch of Turner,
Montana. I use to read their ad's in The
Shotgun News; always wishing to find that
rare Smith & Wesson handgun. What a shame,
that they would crap on us sportsman!!!

Best Wishes,

I have to agree with JG's list. I, too, had the distinct impression that I was interrupting something more important when I placed an order with R Guns.

I've had very good luck with CDNN. I've ordered scads of pistol mags from them. Friendly fellows.

Dr. David Avery. I've purchased 2 Sigs and a Walther from him, all at very reasonable prices. He's a man who can be trusted.

I live in the Dallas area and have bought several pistols from Doc Avery and believe him to be 100% trustworthy.

I have no experience with J&G, so I won't touch that one. However, I have found R-Guns to be somewhat dishonest.

In early December, I ordered a few "Factory Sig P-226" High capacity mags from them, at a premium price of course, but I was in a hurry to beat the new Cali restrictions at the end of the month, so I sucked it up and convinced myself it was worth it since I wouldn't be able to later, and they were after all, FACTORY mags. The shipment was late, getting here after Christmas, and when I opened it, I was steamed! They sent me what appear to be aftermarket mags. They are totally generic - definately no "SIG SAUER" stamp much less "SIG SAUER P-226" - no name or stamp or markings what so ever. They appear to be reasonable quality, but are not what I was expecting. Of course, I could return them, but would not be able to exchange them for anything other than 10 rounders. I'm not a happy camper. I feel that either their advertising was dishonest, or they took advantage of the folks from Cali rushing to pick up a last minute magazine. Either way, not very respectable.

I'll also second the no-go for Botach. I've been convinced to call them a few times, but if your not an LEO, they act like your wasting their time. They're not very friendly, and they don't seem to value your business.

As for the "Good Guys", I'll second the vote for CDNN and Bachman Pawn & Gun. Great folks. Jersey City was good, but I've only dealt with them once. Midway is great for reloading stuff, and Cabellas has treated me good as well.

I've already taken up too much space, so I'll stop with this thought... In todays society, the concept of true "customer service" is all but dead. We, as consumers, must share this information in order to reward the companies that are doing it right, so they will continue. It may also help to remind the companies who have "forgotten" what "service" means.

I've had the service I expected from J&G, but it was ammo only, so can't speak to any other issue.

I've had bad service from Guns & Knives in Ft. Lauderdale (price switching on firearms).

I was shipped incorrect ammo from Four Seasons. They sent 9mm instead of 357SIG, though charged me for the 357. Rather than send back the ammo, they offered my $1 off the regular price for the 9, plus a credit to bring the price in line, resulting in $6 a box for Lawman. They also shipped the 357 with no shipping charges. Overall, I felt they made good.

I ordered .308 ammo from J&G. I was shorted 137 rounds out of 500 in one box and 67 in the other. I always pay by credit card just to protect myself in such cases. It took 5 phone calls but eventually I got my ammo.
The rest of the order met my expectations. Maybe it's just a matter of hit or miss.

As to J&G, I live in S. AZ and called up there last year to verify their stock on 7.62x39 ammo, mags and ammo carriers to which they said they had all in stock. I made the drive up to Prescott only to find out that they were sold out of Russian 7.62, only had S&B in stock (at considerable markup) and on top of that they denied my purchase of several ammo bandoliers at their Shotgun News advertised price - asking for $10 more than the ad stated.

I was absolutely pissed. The place was busy for a weekend day and that is certainly how they make up for shoddy service and false advertising. Quantity, not quality.

I will never frequent their shop again regardless of 'advertised' price and take my time to urge others to do likewise. There are plenty of other ammo retailers out there who value your business - J&G IS NOT ONE OF THEM.

Sorry to hear about J&G. I suspected trouble when I tried to order 30-06 and they were always out-of-stock despite recent shotgun news ads. I've had great experiences with Classic Arms and Southern Ohio Gun.

To reaffirm what was said about Jersey City Armory.
I have yet to find someone with better pricing on Handguns, and it's a small business run buy a real nice up-front kind of guy.

I still kick myself when I see he sells a NIB Ruger Mark II Competition .22 at the same price I bought mine Used!!!

I have never dealt with J&G. I have used
Ivanhoe's, and almost used Cheaper than Dirt.
Never tried firearms, but ammo only.
Ivanhoe's was good, it took a while to get through, and they only deal on ammo through fax. Still felt good about the purchase.
As for CTD---- They are not in all cases. I also got put on hold so many times, I gave up!.

I am looking to use either Ammoman or Cole next time.

I agree about rewarding good service with more business. I give most places about 2 chances and that's it. There are too many places that want my business to fool around with those that don't. I feel that way about all my business be it restaurants or gun shops.
